I recently purchased a Yugo M92 Krinkov SBR and am currently waiting on it to get transfered to my dealer so I can start my paperwork. I really want to outfit the rifle with a Kobra red dot sight from http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstkobra.html. The problem is that you cannot install a side mount on this rifle because it will affect the function of the undefolding stock. There are top mounted rails that require you to drill into the top cover. Reports also say that these rails dont hold a zero as the top cover moves quite a bit on some of the rifles. Tantal, the guy from the above mentioned site, recommended a top cover mount that attaches to the rear sight base. He says it is more solid and will hold a better zero. Only problem is that he doesnt know where I can get one. I have searched but cannot find anything either. So does anyone here know where I can get one? Or if you have a Krink, what did you use and how do you like it?

And for those who want to see the rifle, here are the pics provided by the previous owner:

It was assembled by Wise Lite Arms and comes with 8 mags, bayonet, converted armorers chest, etc.

There are two options that you might be thinking about, and neither would work.

The LaRue Iron Dot replaces the rear sight leaf in a traditional style AKM. The "Krinkov" that you're showing uses the AKS-74U style top cover and rear sight which is very different from an AKM style sight. The dust cover is hinged and the sight is pulled way back to the middle of the dust cover and is of a different design entirely.

The other option, which is a new design top cover mount that attaches to both the AKM rear sight base and to the AKM stock tang won't work either as you (still) don't have the standard rear sight base, and an under-folder doesn't have a rear tang. So no go on either end.

And, since the "-74U" style rear sight is in the middle of the dust cover, I don't know how you'd even install a bolt-on rail there. (And you really can't easily replace the dust cover as it's hinged to the block that would be the rear sight mount if this was an AKM but now houses a small, spring-loaded front handguard retaining pin.)

Now it looks like the UF stock might actually clear the side mount if you didn't have the optic mounted (you'd have to remove it to fold the stock completely)... BUT ... any of the optics that center the sight over the dust cover are not going to work, again, because of that rear sight position.

I'm really at a loss. Maybe there's an ULTIMAK version that could work. If that gas tube/handguard isn't way too short... doubt it.

Wow.

Oh, and how will the bayonet attach?

Sheesh. I started typing thinking I'd come up with something helpful before I got done. Guess not! I don't know -- optics just might not be in the cards for this gun. Anyone have more ideas?

Why would you want special sights on what is, effectively, a short range rifle?

The SBR AKs I've shot were not especially well endowed in the sights department, even for an AK. Even close-up and going fast, they aren't all that helpful. A low (or zero) magnification red-dot sight would increase your speed and hit probability greatly.

That picatinny rail that mounts just forward of the rear sight base looks REALLY cool! Personally, the quad rail forend (which is neat) is just "too much" on a super compact gun like this. I don't need lights, lasers, etc. hanging on it. But a fast optic might be very useful.
