Was perusing the local fun shop this afternoon for a single action revolver (thinking of getting into the cowboy action shooting). But I always have to peruse their military surplus section for any good deals or rarities.
I came across an obvious AK but I have no idea what it is beyond that.
It's a 7.62x39 variant. The underside of the receiver just above the magazine well has the following:
Krinks
M-97
762x38
KRS03xx
One side of the receiver has Blue Ridge Precision Gun Works and its location imprinted.
I think the top cover is a replacement, but it at least is from China (aside from what was listed above, it's the only thing with any identification.) A rail system for a scope has been added to the top cover. It's got a Draganov-style thumbhole stock. And what looks like a slant brake that
appears to be threaded on. Not welded. And it looks like it might have been modified from a single stack to a double stack capability. I don't know this for sure because I have never seen a modified one to know, but the receiver didn't look "finished" at the mag well area. (Granted, I know the AK variants can leave a lot to be desired in the "finish" category, but still.)
There's no date (I couldn't break it down and look for any other identifying features per store policy) so I'm worried about pre-ban issues.
There's some slight rust beginning, a little bit of pitting on the receiver, but nothing too bad. Have no idea what the bore looks like (couldn't break the rifle down)
And they're asking $295.95. Comes with a 30 rounder.
It sounds like a good deal. I've been looking for a 7.62 AK for some time now (I don't want the SAR1s or WASRs, so those aren't in the running) and aside from a few MAK90s I've seen at the gun show which were a little high for my pocket book at the time, this is the only one that's really tripped my trigger. But I know nothing about it and want to make sure I know what I'm looking at before I start drooling too much.
Any info much appreciated. Thanks.
