I read somebody said Kroil worked good for cleaning bores. Anybody else use it?

Use it straight or mix it with acetone or some other solvent?

What does it do well, like loosen hard carbon, copper fouling?

Kroil was a discovery of the bench rest shooters.
They used to use (and probably still do) JB Bore Paste to remove metal fouling.

They discovered that Kano Kroil "The Oil That Creeps" would actually work it's way under metal fouling and aid in lifting it off the bore without harsh chemicals or abrasives.

I'm not sure how it is on powder fouling, but apparently it works well on metal fouling.

I'm not sure how well it works on HEAVY metal fouling like Service Rifle shooter's get. I think most of them still use copper solvents.

I use it, almost exclusively. Straight Kroil, no mixing. I'm not much of one for putting abrasives in my barrel (don't flame, my opinion!;) ) that stuff is for cleaning the kitchen.

The worse the fouling I plug the bore and soak her for a day. It usually only requires very little brushing at the most or just patches to finish up. Just remember this is a very light oil and does/will evaporate. Don't use it for any lube purposes.

If I'm in a hurry, I also use Hoppes Nitro.

I have used it for years, lead, copper, powder. Seems to soften it all up pretty good for easy cleaning and removal. So far so good.

I now use it almost exclusively. It was suggested for my suppressors, amonia based solvents are likely to eat away the aluminum components, and I now use it on everything. Like Ian said it is a very light oil and it will run off/evaporate but it is great for cleaning.

Kroil works very well for cleaning a bore by itself and as previously stated, used along with JB Bore Paste,, it works great for removing metal fouling without harming the bore.

There is a formula which I can't recall right off, for the mixture of Kroil and Shooter's Choice. I have mixed this and used it very effectively for the more stubborn cleaning jobs.

I read once that a 50/50 mixture of Kroil and Hoppes #9 worked well, can't seem to find any refrence to it now though.

I, as well, have used it extensively. Mixed 50/50 w/ Shooters Choice does a damn fine job on the bore. Probably the most common use of JB/Kroil is to remove the moly from the bore after shooting moly bullets.

It is a wonderful cleaning agent, I use it to go over most everything that wipes clean w/ oil. Like was stated, it is not a great lubricant, so use something else for lube.

The stuff really kreeps...

I love Kroil. To test it's abilities, take a well used .22 rimfire and clean the barrel as best you can with yoru regular stuff, then run a brush covered in Kroil down the bore and let her sit for aobut 15 minutes. I did this to my .22 pistol and had lead strips comming out of the end of the barrel. It is great stuff, just wish I could find it locally.

Jolly White Giant, just call the company they will send it to you.

We buy it by the gallon but the 8oz cans are the easiest to deal with.

I have read that mixing Kroil with Shooter's Choice and swabbing the barrel before shooting will help reduce the copper fouling problem.

I like Flitz or JB bore paste with Kroil to fight stubborn things like copper in the bore.

In my long range precision rifles, I use a mix of Kroil with Butch's Bore Shine. If it's really a mess to clean, it's Kroil with JB.

Works like a champ!

Sinclair International has all three of the products readily available.

Cheers,
Mike
