Hello folks:

Picture below is a Kutmaster folding knife with 4 blades. The knife, bottle opener and awl are obvious, but what is that strange thing on the right? I've looked at many dozens of Kutmaster images on Google, but nothing looks like this. The upper edge is thin but not sharpened. Any ideas?

Looks to me like the small blade snapped, and the owner reground it into an even smaller edge.

Thanks RC and all.

What fooled me was I couldn't figure how to hook it on a can edge
like a regular can opener. Now that I know it's called a spear blade, I guess you just push it down through the lid metal. I'll try it on the refries tonight and see what happens.

You might have a WWII era knife there, possibly even a military issue knife. Are the liners steel or brass? Can you get a good photo of the markings?

I'm about 60% sure that this old style of can opener was intended to cut the lid by being pressed down from the top, driving the blade, and metal shavings, into the contents. The type that hooked on the edge of the can so the blade could be levered up were a later development.

I think you pierce the can, then lever it up with the bolster resting on the can rim??

There was a progression of better pocket knife can openers that came along after that early one.
