Hi... my name is Josh. I joined this site not too long after my grandpa passed away, and am just figuring out my way around...(so pardon me if i manage to mess this up somehow) I had heard that my grandpa had a lot of respect from people on this site and would really appreciate if I could talk to some of them. I really miss him and would like to here about him...
 
Hey, Welcome to THR, Yep Labgrade was quite well known, I regret I did not know him well. Others are around, just wait a while and they will be sure to show up.
 
Hi Josh! I only met your grandpa once, but I have a lot of respect for him. We would have been good friends if it hadn't been for his untimely demise.

He was a real freedom fighter. :(

Josh, I've only met your grandfather on a couple of occassions. He was truly a good man. The first time I met him, he'd been preparing elk in a smoker, and offered some up. Truly a fantastic meal, because of both the company and the food.
 
I met your grandfather at Larry's ... real good guy who will be missed :(

Let several of us shoot his Thompson in .309jdj ... so its his fault I was bit by the big bore handgun bug :D
 
Welcome Josh. Although I never met your Granddad face-to-face we exchanged a lot of PM's and emails. Good to see you here!
 
Hi Josh,

I ran into Labgrade half a dozen times or so... get togethers' machine gun shoots, rallys etc.

A very down to earth guy and a heck of a rabble rouser. In a good way.

It's a sad fact that in that many times, I never got to know him very well... sure we talked a good deal about guns and politics, but that's certainly not the measure of a man.

Indeed he did and many of us older members remember him with great affection. Very glad to see you join us and - if you have queries do PM one of the mod's and we'll try and help you along.

I'm another one that never met your grampa, but held him in high esteem due to his commiserations on THR. I've come to be friendly through the ether waves with a number of fine people here on THR and all have been connected positively in some way with Labgrade.

You could do much worse than to associate yourself with the many fine folks here. In May next year there is to be a ronnyvoo of many of the folks. Get with Larry Ashcraft for the details. I'd hoped to be there myself, but I have a niece that picked that weekend to get married, so I'll have to defer till 2008.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Your Grandfather was both well known and well respected on this board (and others) over many years. Welcome, and no offence meant with the New-ish crack.

Your grandpa was a good man, and I miss him too.

For what it's worth, there's not a whole lot I can tell you about him. Like a lot of folks here, we'd all shared threads & topics with him, and prospered from his insight.

I also had the privilege of spending about 4-5 hours on the phone with him, spread out over a couple of calls. It was enough to know that I'd found a kindred spirit, and if he were still with us, I'm sure there'd have been a lot more. It is of endless suck that all that was cut off.

Your grandpa was very comfortable in the outdoors. Woodscraft skills he had.

He did not need camo, fancy scents, or anything. He had Software - meaning he had the mindset, and trained himself in these skills and practiced them.

Like bowhunting with a firearm - labgrade

Did not matter if he was just out hiking, bowhunting, or using a firearm - these woodscrafts were his tools. Not even hunting, not even hunting season, and get so close to a deer, he could poke it with a stick.

Your grandpa was great in the outdoors. A Bull in the China closet at home.

I mean here we have a guy that has woodscraft skills, can shoot bow and arrow, and firearms so well and

"Sorry I took so long Steve, I went to tinkle and missed the toilet and cleaned up my mess..."

Crash, bang, boom Seems the coffee table reached out and grabbed him and the rest of this racket was after he made it to the kitchen, everything on the counter got knocked over trying to get a drink of water...

Rumor is - contents of a fridge would all run and hide to back corner as it was not if he was going to knock something over in the fridge, or set it out and forget to put it back - just what all was going to be the brunt of all this mess.

Great Man your grandpa...

He was a great guy

I never met him
in person but we were trying to co-ordinate a protest over the gov't blocking
pilots from being armed.
I wish I had met him in person.
