Lady friend buying first home defence gun.

The dozen or so females I have taken/taught shooting have ALL had finger strength issues in regards to DA type triggers. When shooting revolvers, almost all shot low at first when in DA mode, which most self defense moments would require. Confidence was low as a result. Single action was different obviously. Continued Training and lots of dry firing would undoubtedly help them. They liked the size of snubbies, but were put off by accuracy issues. 4" would be better perhaps.

All of them, and I mean ALL of them, took to the Glock 19 like ducks to water. Some had initial issues with racking the slide and were shown different ways of accomplishing same. Glock 17 and 26 were the next they shot best. One, who is quite small, simply fell in love with the G21 (if you can believe that... and shot it well).

Eventually, each shot a 1911 and while wary of the weight, acknowledged it as "accurate" & "shootable" ;) , but preferred the Austrian family of 9mm (typically). Had issues w/ C&L.

Finally, (should have been Initially) each began each session with a .22, either the Buckmark or a Ruger MkII variant.

Only 4 of them moved onto smoothbore shooting, 2 of them excelling and moving into busting clays in flight using an O/U and a pump 12 ga.
Both of them study martial arts tho' and could probably main me with their bare hands or a broomstick. Just another tool in their arsenal I guess.

Just my $.02. Definitely steer her to Pax's site.

And watch out for her daughter's "friends" once daughter opens her mouth about Mom's (whatever she does purchase). Kid's like to talk. Too much at times.

I took her to the range yesterday and let her shoot 4 of my revolvers, a K22, K38 M66 and M25 and 3 semi-autos a Buckmark, PPK, and a 1911.

She liked the houge grips on the M66, but the target trigger and hammer on the K38, and the PPK was just love at first sight for her. So Now I think I will have to hit the shows and see how much a stainless PPK costs.

If the PPK is a .380 (vs a .32) also see if you can find a plated CZ83, if she likes the bright and shiny vs. blue/black. Might be a better buy. Then again, it might not.

if she likes the bright and shiny vs. blue/black.

The PPK she fired was a blue .380 but she likes the low maintence of the stainless, a plated gun would give her almost the same effect.

If she liked the ppk, she should check out the Bersa Thunder (avail in .380 & .32) Can be had blue/parked, stainless/nickle or duo-tone.
They cost less then the walther/s&w and owners seem to really like em' (gunblast has a good review of them as well)

I agree with soybomb and a couple others. In a place where we use remotes, computers, and operate cars daily, calling the 3 or so functions required to operate a semi-auto difficult is laughable. It's about as complicated as using a bathroom doorknob. A adult with the brain development of a 4 year old should be able to master the procedures required to fire an autoloader in 1/2 an hour.

My girlfriend own's a P89 & is very good with it. I let her use my SA Ultra Compact this past weekend. She decided to keep it for herself. (fine with me) But now I have to buy another one for myself, I'm thinkin' maby a XD 45 service. Darn the luck!:neener: :neener:
