Semi/sorta new at this reloading process--so got a couple questions. Does all brass head stamped "LC" have the "military crimp primer". Sorting a bunch of .223 (have never loaded for this round) and am running across quite a bit of Lake City hulls. Also, if that is the case will someone steer me in the right direction for info on how to properly handle the de-capping process on crimped primers. Thanks

The Dillon Super Swage is generally considered the best method. The cutters like the Hornady work well. RCBS makes a tool that works on the press, and while slow, it works. Some people just give the pocket a twirl with the deburring tool.

Did about a K of military recently. Got tired of twisting the pocket uniformer thingy so chucked it in a 1/4 drill, put it in my lap, and "felt" the rounds as the tool did it's work. Did not take long to get them done. Now I have nice uniform pockets w/clean flash holes that will reload easily.

RCBS dies will decap with no problems. All LC brass i have needed to have the crimp removed.

Punching the primers out is no big deal, it's just like punching out any others. For removing the crimp, I use one of these in a small cordless drill. It's made by Hornady, comes in small and large. Used in a drill it removes the crimp very quickly, only cuts out what's needed. Used by hand in a wooden handle, it'll drive you howling at the moon, not to mention tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cramping, etc.

I have not had a problem with the primer crimp in .223 brass in the more than 5000 pieces that I have. They deprime normaly and I use an RCBS press mounted swager to resize the primer pockets. It is slow, but I get to feel every piece of brass that I am modifying. It reshapes the primer pocket instead of trimming away the brass.

I can confirm this. I either use a normal sizing die to remove primers from military-crimped brass or I'll use a "universal" depriming die if I'm going to clean the rounds after depriming.

I'm not sure of your experience level, but the other posts in this thread relate to how to remove the crimp, not how to de-prime the brass. I've always de-primed as normal, and then used a swagging die to remove the crimp from the primer pocket. Any number of the products/methods mentioned above will also work to remove the crimp.

Every non-reloaded LC case that I've seen was crimped.

Seperate them for when you start reloading shotguns.:D

De-prime as normal. If you're using Lee dies, you will probably need to tighten the de-capping rod more than Lee did at the factory.

+1 on the Dillon super swage. makes it easy. You'll only have to do this step once to remove the crimp, and then forget about it from then on. keep your new brass from the range seperate until you're sure that it has been swaged.

I recently finished processing about 900 rounds of LC brass in 7.62x51. I found that the primers in the LC brass tended to be more difficult to remove than standard spent commercial cartridges, as my decapping pin on my resizing die got bent. So I purchased a Lyman Universal Decapping Die...it is heavy duty and doesn't suffer from repeated punching into mil brass primers as the standard die did.

I like using the Lyman decapping die...it adds an extra step, but I clean primer pockets so it isn't that much extra work.

Obviously brand new LC brass will not.

I don't recall anything not new that didn't have a crimp, which is in contrast to jcwit. So, it looks like you will just have to inspect it :D

I think all of the LC Match ammo I've ever had did NOT have a primer crimp. My guess is they only crimp the standard-use military product they make.
