I think LaPierre is an excellent spokesman for the 2nd Amendment. He refuses to accept the "progressive" position that gun control is reasonable, and is clearly not seeking to be "one of the boys" with the mainstream media. His in-your-face attitude says "this is our RIGHT, not something you can grant us or take away from us" and that's the attitude I want to see by the NRA. He's been recently criticized by the media for seeming to reverse the NRA position on universal background checks, but I think he is spot on. First, the liberals refuse to make the checks instant and comprehensive by including the mentally ill, and second, by now insisting on the retention of background check data it is clear that the anti-gun crowd is really looking for back-door national gun registration. If background checks were truly used to prevent those who should not own guns from getting them, and precautions were in place to keep the government from creating any type of national registry, then I think the NRA would again support this concept. I am 100% behind Wayne on this and most other issues.
