I have a muzzleloader that has something in the barrel where fouling collects, just one spot. Before and after that spot a patched round pall rams right down easily. It's used. I figure it has some corrosion in it (can't easily look down it since it's blind).

What's the best way to smooth it out?

If corrosion .... I would not so much expect any high spot ... pitting would usually be opposite.

Let's assume, as you didn't say ... it's a percussion ... just possible with nipple out .. that a VERY strong light source down flash hole just might give enough illumination up a cleaned bore, to maybe see the spot.

Lapping might be difficult, tho a tempting proposition. If you felt prepared to try it .... an oversize brush with a paste of perhaps part CLP and JB bore paste (1911 tuner's brew!) ...... stiff enough so as it doesn't fall off .... ''toothpaste'' consistency probably. Work this many times concentrating on the area of problem ... finally rinse out with any cleaner that will flush out the abrasive content .. dry it out and go fire . a lot!

Could be this will at least decrease the problem. Oh for a borescope eh!

aye. I recall seeing a borelite that you drop down a muzzleloader at a gunshow but Iwas too cheap to buy it *kicks self*

Take a patch and soak it with the Remington abrasive bore cleaner, run it back and forth on a nice tight jag. You can get it at WalMart and places like that. It actually does a very nice job of polishing out a bore.

Just remembered ....... I got a year or two back from Wally World ..... a real simple fiber-optic extension thing which has a rubber piece that clips easily over a mini MagLight .. that will got thru a smallish hole and gives excellent light. I use mine for lighting chambers and seeing down bore from muzzle . works well.

Oughta still be around I'd think...... and not over expensive IIRC.

If you have the equipment, you can unscrew the breech plug, which will give you a full view of the barrel. But be sure to use the right wrench and soak the breech in a good penetrant before trying.

I really don't remember mine having a breech plug, there is like a male dovetail machined on the breech end of the barrel where is goes into the lock. Solid.
