First time firing....she's been a safe-queen long enough so grandson and I took her out for a dance. Awesome to say the least. Recoil is about on par with a heavy 12 gauge but the muzzle blast/concussion is horrific!

I chose the LAR since it is one of the few .50's that will fit in a safe comfortably. 36" barrel and about 32 lbs.

Nice rifle man. How long has it been sitting? I bet you were excited to shoot it...bet the grandson was pumped, too!

About 18 months! Yeah, he (and I) was very excited and we visit the range each time he visits (he lives in Maryland). It is a little difficult to find a range that allows .50's and the range we used is about one hour away but well worth the drive.

We have given each grandchild a firearm and are teaching them proper firearm handling. Since they live in gun-unfriendly Maryland, visits to Texas have opened another world for them and allows them to shoot a wide variety of firearms. The pictured grandson is the proud owner of a Savage .22 magnum and his younger brother (8 YO) has a .22 Crickett. 5 YO sister has a pair of cap guns that, as far as everyone is concerned, are real firearms....she cannot handle them without adult supervision, eye/ear protection, and finger on the "safe spot" at all times except when on target. We continually coach them on muzzle, trigger, and safe-spot.

You'll notice the cap guns are in the safe along with other goodies! The grandkids have all played video games and such so you can imagine their excitement with being able to fire an actual AK-47, AR15/M4, .44 mag, .45 ACP, etc, etc, etc. The option of firing them is whatever they're comfortable with and we always mix in a lot of .22LR's while shooting.

Tomorrow is .458 Lott day for the grandson visiting us now.....his choice and I'm sure the .22 magnum will get a good workout too!

NOOOOOOOOOOO. Don't show me your guns like that....now I feel like I need to go buy one or two.

18 months!?!?! I don't think I could let that baby sit in my safe that long..you Sir are a patient man. And props to getting the young ones out shooting. Some of my fondest memories with my family is our trips to the range. Having a nice selection is always fun too.

P.S. Be sure to take care of that pink holster! :neener:

Ahhh....I thought that holster would catch some eyes! It fits my Blackhawk just fine but clashes with my boots!

I certainly didn't intend for it to rest that long but time is precious and just wouldn't allow for the hour drive there, range time, and an hour back. Thunder Range is only 20 minutes from me, but alas, no BMG's allowed. Besides, I kinda "promised" him he would be the first to shoot it....after my first shot that is!

Actually, that pic was taken last year and a few more strays have found their way in there since then....Win 70 .30-06, Win 1400 12 ga, FN .30-06, Mossberg 82T, Ruger Single-Six .22LR/.22Mag, Mosin 91/30, Marlin Papoose, Kimber UC II .45acp, and an LC Smith FG 12 ga. I am, as my gf says, a gun-junkie!

A few strays, huh? All those in a year huh...must be nice.........

And I drive 30 minutes to my range so I know the feeling...I would drive a full hour if I had to!

Actually and sadly, it was my gf's father passing that contributed the two Win's, FN, Mossberg, Ruger, and LC Smith. The Kimber was a x-mas gift from her and the Mosin was just, well, just because. I picked up the Marlin (actually a 795....almost the same as a Papoose) at Academy....didn't want another .22, didn't need another .22, and didn't have safe room for another .22 but I figured for $89.95 I couldn't pass it up.

Yes, it is nice but I have also been collecting firearms for almost fifty years. If money were no object I would have at LEAST ten more safes!

Gf is tolerant of my addiction and likes to shoot with me but chores dictate my time and we also enjoy backyard time (shudder) together. She carries regularly and has a good sense of what I "need/want" hence the Kimber. Over the years I have been the recipient of several Marlins, a Henry, Beretta Tomcat, and a few other goodies including Crimson Trace sights. She carries a S&W 360 M&P that she picked for herself.

Nice. I suppose the passing of your girlfriend's father did give you a nice bump...I know I have a few coming when my dad dies....a few from the lady's dad, too (I hope anyways). And I agree, if I had enough money I would own 2 of everything :)
