Ok, so the only two rounds I currently load using large rifle are 460 S&W and 7.62x54r.

460 I use H110, IMR4227, and the occasional Trail Boss

7.62x54r I use IMR4451, IMR4350, and Varget

I mostly have LR Mag primers, but I was able to pick up a few hundred LR non-mag.

I'm pretty darn sure that for the 460 loads using H110 and 4227, I need the mag. Not so sure about the TB.

I have no clue about the 7.62x54r loads, any advice on that would be super helpful.

You might actually see better results with the non-Mag primer with IMR powders, I don't know anything about Varget.

I load 460 as well, and from my understanding, the reason that magnum rifle primers are specified is because of the pressure of the round (max 65k psi) and not necessarily from the need to light the powder reliably. The normal rifle primers are already hotter than the normal large pistol primers.

I don't load my 460 to max published charges, since full pressure loads will require hammering out the spent cases. In fact, most factory ammo is downloaded for this reason. I've used regular large rifle primers without issue, using H110.

Hornady load data specifies WLR primers for 460, and Federal 210 primers for 7.62x54r.

I hope this helps.
