ey all,

My best friend will be moving to Las Vegas for school. Once he found out that Nevada is shall issue he was pretty happy as we cant carry in IL. He asked me to find out about CCWing there. Unfortunately Packing.org was down today.

He will be living in the Las Vegas area with his aunt. He currently owns one handgun, a shotgun, and some hunting rifles. I ran a search on "Vegas" and I learned that he has to register his handguns. Does he also have to register his long guns as well?

And how much does it cost? Also what are the requirments to get a CCW permit? I assume jsut the training? And I read something about having to put guns on a permit? Can someone explain what that is? I assume the gun you carry is marked on your permit? Is their a limit to how many? Does it cost anything? I also could have sworn that I read they no longer do that in Vegas. Is that true hopefully?

Thanks to all who reply.

Here's a link that will answer most of your questions:

http://www.lvmpd.com/permits/firearms_concealed.html

Long guns are not registered, but all handguns are supposed to be registered within 24 hours or somthing stupid like that. Each one you buy here from a dealer will be registered when you buy it.

You take a CCW class and qualify with each gun you want to have on the permit. After you have the permit it costs $25 to add a gun to it plus the fee for qualifying it at whatever range you do it at. There is no limit that I know of for how many guns can be on the permit.

It's $105 for a new permit but remember, Metro does not accept anything but Money Orders and Cashiers Checks. It's been explained to them that not taking cash is illegal but they don't care! :p

This is the most anti-gun place in NV, and we'll be moving to Nye Co. where they don't have alot of the rules that Clark Co. does.

Gun registration of the handguns you buy after you move out of Clark County arn't registered seperately with the county, unless they are on your CCW. So, if you lived in Clark County and registered your handguns there. They will still be registered. The handguns that are listed on your CCW will also still be "registered". Everything else that was bought from a dealer is still on a yellow sheet and in the dealer's bound book.

I am not sure if this is any big step forward. I have some handguns that have been registered in Clark County for 20 years and it never hurt me. Don't get me wrong, I am totally opposed to handgun registration but let's not try to make this example of it out to be something it's not. Saying that Clark County Nevada is anti-gun is pretty ridiculous. We have shall issue CCW, we have super easy sign off on NRA weapons, we have numerous NFA dealers, we have regular monthly machine gun matches (attended by cops), ............................ but yes, you are supposed to register your handguns although I have never heard of anyone being in trouble for not doing it. If you buy a handgun from a dealer in Clark County it will be registered. Now they know, and the federal government knows. In Nye country only the federal government knows unless the Nye County Sheriff's Office calls the dealer and wants to know if they sold Joe Blow a gun, then the dealer looks through his records and gives them all the details.

Come on. Don moved here from the people's republic of California. When he decided he wanted to buy a machine gun there was no problem at all.
Now Clark County is anti-gun ?

I want to buy a machinegun! It seems that he will have to register his handguns after he gets there. That stinks but I dont think this is as bad as it is here in IL. I have to keep my handguns outside of my county at a friends in a neighboring county. That is rediculous.

I didn't say that CC is anti-gun - I said it's the most anti-gun place in NV. LV has what, 3.2 MILLION visitors a month and the po-po are not going to let you do anything to mess that up. Open carry is legal here - try it on the Strip and see how far you get.

Blue cards*, handgun registration, 3 day waiting period for first gun buyers (LV only), they just seem to throw up every roadblock thay can. I'm sure if the state hadn't stepped in and stopped the locals from passing gun laws there'd be more. Sure my guns will still be registered in Pahrumph - assuming they're all registered here. :p

Ken is right - where I am now is a whole lot better than where I was. The CCW requirements in Nye Co. are the same but things like registration and blue cards will not be there. Lots of BLM land to shoot on, real close to the new house. Ken also knows Pahrump much better than I do so maybe he'll give me a tour of the brothels and show me where all the gunstores are. I've only found 3 gunstores so far. :D

A Blue Card is something you get for each registered handgun. Anytime you have that gun with you, like taking it to the range or carrying it, you must have the blue card also.

Just go to the end of Homestead RD, as you are entering the town, by the Castle Bar. There are 2 out that way, and several in Crystal, north of Pahrump. Not that I ever PARTAKE them!

Not that I ever PARTAKE them!

Of course not! Just for er, historical info and such. :scrutiny:

The Castle Bar.... the first house (actually lot) we looked at was right off Homestead but after a while the wife said "I am NOT turning off at the titty bar every day to come home!"

I said "Now Honey, you could get in shape for working that pole when they have "40 and over" night!" Some people there thought that was very funny, but she didn't! :D

So bye-bye to that lot.

Howdy!

Y'all have mentioned the onerous Clark County handgun registration requirement, but two other jurisdictions in Clark County also can upset your fun. The city of North Las Vegas has a couple of ordinances regarding the carrying of a handgun in your vehicle, so vague only the cops seem to really know what they are...and ya really don't want to mess with NLV cops, trust me!

In addition the fair village of Boulder City has an ordinance regarding the carrying of firearms and ammo in your vehicle. I'm guessin' every person that has ever gone to the Boulder Rifle and Pistol range has broken this one.

There is a move to have the state legislature nullify the pre-emption exemption that Clark County currently enjoys so that the same laws that apply in Pahrump, Reno and Elko apply in Clark County.

Also under discussion is a revamp to our CCW laws in light of the fiasco earlier this year where BATFE would not accept our CCW background check in lieu of the Brady NICS check.

If y'all would like a little more info, just let me know

I drove to Vegas a couple of times from Utah, first, since they don't have reciprocity, I had to stop in Mesquite and unload and case. Then when I check in at the Luxor, I checked my Kimber in at the security desk. Here's the stupid part. Their policy doesn't allowe me to leave a gun in my car, but they want me to carry my gun THROUGH THE CASINO FLOOR to the security desk to check it in.

I quickly decided that this was insane, and now I lock it in the car.

I think the problem is, the Nevada Gaming Commission has a finger in every law to go through the state legislature, so they make sure that no matter what laws are passed, they won't have to worry about guns walking through casinos.

Someone told me about the CCW permit being good enough for a Brady check. I heard the ATF said it was not then later changed its mind. Is that true?

And what kind of hoops does one have to go through to own a short barrelled shotgun?

I always carry when I am in a casino. I play cards a lot and have actually been followed when I taken down a few large hands, I havew yet to find a rule that prohibits the carrying of a firearm in a casino.

All I did was call the casino in advance to ask them what their policy was, since I was sure I would deal with their goons more than any vegas PD. No firearms of any kind on premises, no exceptions mentioned. So, if you have a nevada permit, you CAN carry on the floor?

How would they know ?

I hate to use one of these cute little internet phrases that are used endlessly, but................
Concealed means concealed.

No one need know about it.
No one need be defenseless.

Shootouts have occured several times in Las Vegas casinos. One happened in the Silver Nuggest a couple days ago (duh). If you need to defend your life would you rather have the ability or would you rather simply be a victim and go to your grave knowing you were a good sheep that always did everything you were told and always cleaned your plate ?

There's no restrictions on carrying in casinos with a CCW, although I've heard if they spot it they will ask you to leave. I know I've had no problems carrying in any of them. The only one I've known to post 30.06 signs was Binion's before they went under.

But your gun and CCW is still legal, as are the unloaded guns going to the range. Well in NLV anyway - I don't know the BC laws.

That's already been changed. I bought a XD 45 a couple of months ago at Citadel and there was no background check.

I just finished my UNLV application. The admissions counselor said I have a very good chance at being admitted. It is nice to think that I will be living in a free state sooner than later. Well I will post any more questions (I am sure I will have a few!).

Thanks to all.
