Hello all, just curious about the practicality of a Laser mounted on a HD pistol or CCW. I honestly think they're just cool in general, however it be hard to choose between that and a weapon light.

The main argument for me is that one can always have A laser mounted on the pistol, and then use a type of tactical grip style to hold the flash light if needed. But it doesn't go the other way around.

Many companies (EX. Crimson Trace) make a combo Light and laser as well, would you guys take this as a compromise?

So what do you think THR? Life saver? Interesting accessory? or just some Mall Ninja crap?

lasers are good sighting aids and help a lot with target shooting or point shooting. they should not be relied upon as the sole method of firing at a target.

I have a Crimson Trace on my revolver and a Lasermax on her XD. For home in the dark they beat night sights by a ton. I have never saw a benefit in a night sight.

I put Crimson Trace grips on my Smith & Wesson Model 681, zeroed them at 25 yards with Remington 125 grain SJHP .38 Special +P ammo, and promptly lost it. I showed them to my wife, who is a good shot in her own right, and demonstrated the laser.

She asked, "How do you turn on the laser?" :uhoh:

I said, "Pick up the gun."

She asked, "How do you turn on the laser?" :scrutiny:

I said, "Pick up the gun."

She fixed me with a steely glare and asked, "How...do...you...turn...on...the...laser?"

I said, "If you pick up the gun, your middle finger will press the activation button, and the laser will come on."

She picked up the gun, the laser illuminated, and she asked, "So, the bullet will hit wherever the laser is?"

"Within a couple of inches out to about 40 yards."

"Cool," she says.:D I haven't held the damn' thing since. :fire:

I have a J frame with the Crimson Trace grips and it's great.
You can over do it with a laser, though:

Lasers are more gimmick than anything else. Most sidearm fire fights occur within 21 feet, so ask yourself, what good will a laser do in that situation? If you can't come on point from the hoslter in the blink of an eye, what makes you think a laser is going to get you there faster?

Save your money for the ammo to work on developing your muscle memory to have center mass lined up in your sights in that blink of an eye..........practice practice practice.
