First allow me to say I am an old man that grew up during the 50’s, became a man during the 60’s and went to war during the same decade. I grew up hunting because it was necessary to help feed the family. We were poor and could ill afford the ability to buy meat from the local grocery. I learned to hunt with a bolt action 22 cal Winchester with a broken extractor requiring the shooter the carry a belt knife to extract the casing. All of the sons within my family quickly learned the ability to hit a rabbit on the run with a 22 cal.

I remember hearing of the wars my father, grandfather and uncles spoke very little of.

My father taught me to shoot, though he never once touched a gun. My grandfather taught me to reload, though I never once recall him touching a gun. My uncles were always there to provide input, though, they did not ever pull the trigger, as far as I recall. I never thought about the reasons behind why none of the figures I revered never pulled the trigger until today.

My brothers and I accepted their desire to not handle firearms again. Without understanding (from a personal perspective) their reluctance we accepted it. To this day, my brothers and I do not hunt. I, like my brothers and our forefathers before us, have killed enough. To this day, each of us are proud owners of various firearms (sorry boys, none of us own the dreaded black rifles (for reasons many of you will understand) but all of us are firearms owners and routinely practice with our sidearms and our “hunting rifles.”

We do this, and have insisted all of our sons and daughters, learn to handle and be proficient with all the firearms we own, because we all know our way of life is precious and hinges upon a thread than can be severed instantly by the powers that be elected by those that promise anything that can be achieved by a promise that affords that achievement without a sacrifice or effort upon the recipient.

To this end, we (my brothers and I) have renewed our commitment to the NRA and the respective associations of Gun Owners within the states we reside, and have redoubled the efforts to educate the unknowing regarding firearms.

We (me and my brothers) pray for the survival of our rights during this time. I trust each of you are joining us at night as we lay in our beds and consign ourselves to the powers that each of us believe watch over us, that we come out of this assault with the powers that we went into it with.

I had been given a 5 year membership a while back and it expired a year or 2 ago. Laziness prevented me from reupping. Just called the number and it took less than 4 minutes. 300 is a fabulous deal
