Sen. Ted Cruz Restores Gun Industry’s Access to Popular Business Software
Last week, the office of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced a rare and welcomed shift in corporate policy to restore access to a popular brand of business software and payment processing that had previously discriminated against members of the firearm industry. The move came after Cruz’s office had investigated complaints from constituents whose small businesses were disrupted when their access to the brand’s services was abruptly canceled. In each case, there was no warning, no opportunity to appeal the decision, and no recompense for the economic harms caused. Diligent work by Sen. Cruz and his staff traced the chain of decision-making through the brand’s own hierarchy and on to large national banks with whom the brand had partnered. Ultimately, when confronted with its shockingly callous treatment of the constituents, the brand relented and agreed to change its policies.

Michigan Police Officials Express Concern, Skepticism Over “Red Flag” Enforcement
So-called “red flag laws” have become a recent favorite of gun control activists, who portray them as a way to keep firearms out of “dangerous hands.” The laws empower judges to issue case-by-case firearm prohibition and confiscation orders, upon a petitioner’s showing that the respondent of the order poses a danger to themselves or others. The concept has at times held superficial appeal even to those who might normally support Second Amendment rights. But it’s constitutionality and efficacy wilt under close, critical scrutiny, which is why the NRA opposes the concept. Last week, an unusually revealing article by Bridge Michigan, an independent news source from the Wolverine State, brought another critical voice to the debate: that of the police who will actually be tasked with executing the orders. Entitled “Michigan police agencies sweating enforcement of 'red flag' gun laws,” it vividly underscores the difference between theory and practice when it comes to gun control.

New Book by Leading Experts Explores Second Amendment’s History and Interpretation
In last year’s pivotal case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court held that to be valid under the Second Amendment, laws regulating firearms must be consistent with “this Nation’s historical tradition of firearms regulation.” That mandate has now created an urgent need for scholarly, accurate, exhaustively-researched, and – above all – trustworthy chronicles of how firearms have been treated under American law since the Second Amendment was ratified. A new book authored by law professors Robert J. Cottrol and Brannon P. Denning is poised to set the standard for other works in this field to meet. Entitled, To Trust the People with Arms: The Supreme Court and the Second Amendment, it traces the history of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms from the nation’s founding to the present day and is sure to be invaluable for anyone seeking to understand the true story of America’s first freedom.
Blue City Blues
Many politicians on the left arguably suffer from a sort of collective confirmation bias, where the solution to crime is to enable more crime. How else to explain the steadfast commitment to things like gun control that targets the law-abiding, no bail and non-prosecution criminal justice reforms, and defunding the police, all of which have apparently done little except drive up crime?

Lujan Grisham Still Desperate for Attention
It’s been a couple weeks since we last talked about New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (D) efforts to abuse her authority and enact a clearly unconstitutional 30-day ban on law-abiding citizens carrying a firearm for self-defense in Albuquerque and the surrounding Bernalillo County. We suggested it was little more than a PR stunt on the governor’s part, considering how obvious it was that she did not have the authority to do what she tried to do, the fact that she openly admitted that criminals would not be likely to obey her order—much as they refuse to obey any number of other laws that outlaw their actions—and the fact that there was absolutely no enforcement of the ban over the first weekend it was in place.

California-Style Gun Control: Does Not Work as Advertised
California has a well-earned reputation as one of the most anti-gun jurisdictions in the United States, with its state and local codes crammed with virtually every cockamamie scheme to suppress firearm ownership conceived within the last 50 years. The state’s current governor, Gavin Newsom, is not only determined to cement this reputation statewide, he’s trying to bring California-style gun control to the country at large by promoting an ill-conceived amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would impose draconian gun control coast to coast. But actual data shows California holds another dubious distinction that puts a lie to the efficacy of its highly-touted “gun safety laws”: it is the state with the highest number of mass murders committed with firearms.

Anti-gun Democrats, Media Collaborators, Concoct Phony “Scandal” to Ban Ammunition
Here we go again. Every so often, some “brilliant” firearm prohibitionist comes up with the “insight” that if gun bans are unconstitutional, ammunition should be targeted instead. This is akin to the old tactic of cracking down on ink and paper supplies as a means of curtailing First Amendment expression and is just as unconstitutional. We saw an attempt by the government to ban one of the most popular types of ammunition for America’s most popular rifle during the Obama/Biden administration, when ATF suddenly (and inaccurately) reclassified M855 rounds as “armor piercing.” That overreaching move not only failed to go the distance, it was followed by the resignation of the ATF’s then director, B. Todd Jones. Now, as Gun Control, Inc. continues to recycle the failed executive gun control schemes of the past, another attempt is underway to ban supposed “military grade” ammunition from public sale.

Our God-given right to self-defense, as enshrined in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, is unequivocally affirmed, just as our founding fathers intended. Thank you to my fellow NRA members, gun owners, and patriots throughout South Carolina who have tirelessly worked to make this day a reality." –Rep. Bobby J. Cox
"Today, we join 27 other states in passing Constitutional Carry. I promised the folks of Louisiana that I would champion Constitutional Carry into law, and within two months, I have honored that commitment," Republican Gov. Jeff Landry told Fox News Digital. "It's fundamentally clear — law-abiding citizens should never have to seek government permission to safeguard themselves and their families. Today, we have secured an incredible victory for liberty in Louisiana. I want to thank Louisiana’s NRA members for their great work."
We generally don’t expect to see the Washington Post say anything positive about firearms or law-abiding gun owners, although there are occasional Op-Eds from pro-Second Amendment lawmakers, unbiased researchers and Constitutional scholars, and the like.
Those worried that Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was so busy harassing well-meaning gun dealers and owners that it had forgotten about its biennial tradition can rest easy.
We have written before about police “operations” termed “weapons sweeps” in the United Kingdom, in which law enforcement resources are used to scour public spaces to ferret out would-be implements of “knife-enabled crime.”
Last week, Congress approved a package of legislation to fund various government agencies that corrects a longstanding and shameful practice that had been depriving American veterans of their Second Amendment rights since 1998.
The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is proud to announce the appointment of Joseph Greenlee as Director of the Office of Litigation Counsel. With a sterling record of advocacy and scholarship in defense of Second Amendment rights, Greenlee's addition to the NRA-ILA team marks a significant stride in our ongoing efforts to protect and advance the rights of American gun owners through legal channels.

Virginia governor vetoes dozens of gun control bills thwarting Democrat legislators
"Governor Glenn Youngkin's courageous veto of dozens of ill-conceived gun control bills is a resounding victory for the Second Amendment in Virginia. On March 19, the city of Chicago filed suit against handgun manufacturer Glock. Seeking to shift responsibility for the city’s woeful governance, Chicago’s lawsuit blames the popular firearm manufacturer for the third-party criminal misuse of its products. Specifically, Chicago is seeking to hold Glock liable for the fact that criminals use illegal devices (auto sears or so-called “Glock switches”) to illegally modify Glock pistols into illegal machine guns. The suit seeks to force Glock to alter the design of its celebrated pistols along with monetary damages.
