I'm thinking about getting a Ruger PC9. What are the latest opinions on the Ruger PC's? Thanks. 44

Very solidly built, like a M1 carbine in handling. Well designed. If it took Glock mags, they'd sell like crazy.

My opinion is that Ruger should make a damn .45 carbine, as they promised via letter to me in '95, that they would do "shortly".

Dear Ruger,

Thanks very much for the nifty sticker and patch. NOW MAKE THE DAMN CARBINE! :D

I've had one for about three years now, and it's still my favorite gun. It's also my wife's choice for a house gun. I have a couple of 30 rounders that work excellently in it, as well as four factory 15 rounders. We stocked two of the 15's with +P+, which it handles with no problem, for home defense. I put one of the "One Ragged Hole" ghost ring rear sights on it, and it's incredibly accurate out to 50 yards. The triggers can be lightened up a bit, and some of that pre-travel taken up a bit. Let me put it this way, I bought the Ruger first. I have since bought, and sold, a KelTec carbine, which I liked, but it was a little cheesey feeling. I also bought, and sold, a Beretta Storm. Neither were the equal of the Ruger carbine. I have considered trying to fashion a .357sig carbine from a PC40 with a PC9 barrel. It should work, but I'm not sure.

My three main complaints with the PC9, for me personally are: short LOP (I added spacers to mine), it's heavy, and the integral Ruger scope rings. They work great on the 77's but you have to buy $50 mount to put on most red-dot's, which go perfectly with this carbine.

For the money, or not for the money, it beats the KelTec and Beretta, hands down. I'd only get rid of it for a HK94.

PC9

I had my PC9GR for 6 years and fired over 9,000 rds through it so far and it has been very reliable and the trigger pull gets better with use.

the conventional rifle stock and safety is like a Rem 870, it is compact and very quick handling, I think it's better than the Beretta CX Storm or KEL TEC
it does remind me of the M1 carbine, it's actually shorter than the M1 carbine, the barrel is only 16" inches and M1 carbine has an 18" bbl.

I put a double mag pouch on my buttstock mfg. by "Gould & Goodrich" so I always have two extra 15 rd mags with the gun.

only use ruger facory 10 & 15 rd mags or MECGAR 15 & 20 rd mags, there the most reliable in the PC9's

Mine is excellent, and like everyone stated here, it's very much so like an M1 carbine in handling. I've got a few 30 rounders that work flawlessly with mine, two factor 10's and a couple of 15's. If you shoot it, you'll love it. It's rediculously accurate for being a 9mm carbine too. Now quit reading and go get one!

I would love to get a PC40 to go with my P944 except that the .40S&W really doesn't gain hardly anything out of that longer barrel, except for better accuracy at longer ranges. Now, if Ruger just would make a 10mm pistol and a PC10 that could take maxi max 10mm loads without beating itself to death, hooya I'm there.

Otherwise, I think I'll probably get a Marlin 1894C in .357Mag for my carbine. Course, then I'll have to get a .357 wheel gun to go with it. How does .357Sig compare to .357Mag? If they're pretty close to each other from both pistol and carbine barrels, I may have to think about mountain_cowboy's idea. Course then I'd have to rechamber my P944 to .357Sig too.

I love mine! I'd probably say that overall, it's my favorite.

REEEAAAAAAALLLLLLLY heavy triggers. Shoot one before you buy one.

I've found that the trigger pull can vary depending on how the gun was reassembled after cleaning. Some times, the trigger pull is insanely hard (so hard, one would think the safety's on), but others, it can be light. It all depends on how exactly it was reassembled.

RUGER PC9

Thanks for all the input. I guess I better get busy and try a PC9.

I use the Federal 9BPLE +P+ ammo in Glocks, and it's a really good round for carbines. I have some other caliber carbines but they all have excess noise or excess penetration.

I got intrested in the PC9 because the 9BPLE is a low-penetration round, especially at carbine velocity where the bullet flattens out more. And because a pistol carbine fits the current laws of civilian self defense.

One thing I was really glad to hear is that the gun is pretty accurate.

Thanks again. I appreciate it. 44
