Duty to Render Aid to Shooting Victim

A person who discharges a firearm and knows or should
know that the discharge has caused bodily harm to another
person must immediately investigate the extent of the
injuries and render immediate reasonable assistance to the
injured person. A person who violates this duty is subject to
criminal penalties that vary according to the extent of the
shooting victim’s injuries. A person who witnesses a
shooting incident is subject to the same duty to investigate
and render aid and is also subject to criminal penalties for
failing to do so.

Minn. Stat. § 609.662

OK BG, I just shot you to save my life, but how are you doing....?

Weasel words.

Depends on what "immediately", "immediate", and "reasonable" means.

What if you shot your attacker to save your life but didn't
immediately investigate the extent of the
injuries and render immediate reasonable assistance to the
injured person
because you needed to shoot him/her again because they weren't stopped by the first shot and they were still going after you. Can you be prosecuted for not offering immediate aid? Looks like a possibility if the prosecutor was so inlined:what: .

"Hey buddy, can you hear me? ... Alright, thats good; Are you bleeding? ... Bad, you say? ... Like the Mississippi River, huh, yeah, that does sound pretty bad; want me to call an ambulance? ... Since you also said 'please', I'll call your attorney too, what's his/her number?"

Will that suffice? :D

Hmmmmmmmmm
"How can I help you? OK, since you broke your nose in the fall after I shot you, and your nose is bleeding quite profusely, I'll put a tournaquet around your neck to stop the nasal blood flow........

Dialing 911 is the only "aid" I know how to give after such a situation.

I think 30' to find the phone and call is fair.

Time of Death is only determined after they actually die, so if you don't have any immediate neighbors, you can wait a while.
