I did not know they called cast steel "tool steel" well, I think at least it isn't" sintered "steel like the part in question ??? And no I don't want to discuss "sintered" steel positives and negatives here. Just that the prone to damage parts are difficult to find and the firing pin is pressed in or some such factory magik. :( Don't let that deter you OP, these are fine guns, A bit portly for EDC but very kewl and useful none the less.

It is nickel. They weren't made in stainless.

Mark III Troopers were offered in three kinds of finishes, "high gloss bright blue-black, bright nickel and satin electroless nickel, also known as 'Coltguard' ". The Coltguard finish is often mistaken for stainless steel. Nickel and Coltguard finished Lawman revolvers came mostly with Pachmayr "Signature" rubber grips with Colt medallions.
