I shot a junk truck bed the other day. My 125 gr lead wonderfull 9mm homemade round punches through just like fmj. Dents a keg the same. Just wondering how they test out in actual ballistic tests compaired to fmj or hollow points.

Lead will punch through sheet metal just like FMJ or hollow points, yes lead is softer than steel and all that, but so is copper clad lead.
It's weather or not the target material can absorb the incomming energy, mass times velocity squared.
If it can, then it will show signs of this with dents and such, as the energy is transfered into the target material.
If not, the projectile will punch though it.
