I stopped in at the new Bass Pro Shop inSpanish Fort Alabama. #25 Lawrence brand chilled shot was $65.00/25 lbs. Yikes! Primers, LR CCI=$50/1000.

How much higher can these prices go?:uhoh:

They should come back down eventually.

The worldwide recession/depression we are in has dropped world market prices on lead, copper, etc., a bunch in the last couple of months.
And I do mean a bunch!

Less demand in automotive, electronics, housing, etc worldwide, so?
And fuel to melt it & haul it is way down too.

But, I doubt we will see any decrease in price until remaining stocks are sold and new prices reflect raw material & transportation decreases.

problem is a lot of the stores are trying to make a buck off the high prices they paid. So they are going to have a hard time selling it. Eventually they will have sell it for less than they paid for it other wise it just takes up space.

That is high for shot. Locally here it's $35.99 a bag, and I can get it for $26.00 a bag from the manufacturer if I buy 1000 pounds.

Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, etc. have to pay for all that decoration in those big fancy buildings. They can't charge admission, so they make it up on the sticker. Or a better way to put it, they let you in for free, but charge you to get out......

Hope this helps.

Here in my home town...

Same bag of shot at BassPro is $65.
Same bag of shot at Sportsman's Warehouse is $39.
Same bag of shot at closest local gun shop $36.
Same bag of shot at the other local gun shop $41.

The 65 dollar price is BassPro's problem, not yours.

Galil5.56 - As always, thank you kindly for the link!

Purchase Locally

Well, if it weren't for the US Postal Flat rate letting me buy up to seventy pounds of lead from the other side of the country and then shipping it to my doorstep for about ten bucks, :what: I'd do more buying locally.

Problem here is that nobody casts within a few hundred miles of me - at least I've not found but one in the last 20 years here. I don't mind paying Walmart less than $14 for a carton of .22 LR, but I try to support small businesses wherever I can. Gander Mountain and Cabela's haven't done me any favors. And how many chain stores have stopped selling firearms :banghead:in recent memory?

I try to vote in a way that will support shooting sports, and I try to spend that way. Supporting "Joe the Gunshop Owner" and mail order purchases from the little guys who got chased off of Ebay :cuss::fire: is my way of being a good citizen, hope you guys think well of the idea, too.

When they legislate all the smaller gunshops and ammo dealers out of business, all your left with is the larger dealers, like brass pro and cabela, gander etc. to charge a premium.

FM12, Like Jefferson Herb said, if you use large amounts of shot, invest in a shotmaker and sell to your buddies too, to pay for it or even get them in on the puchase and make as much as you like.

Current lead spot price is at around 40 cents a pound atm.

Yes, prices have started to drop slowly on lead shot after spiking a few months ago.

I went to the scrap yard yesterday. In Florence Alabama. Scrap lead was 50 cents a pound. The yard manager said that last year at this time, it was 90 cents a pound.

World bulk prices are a third of what they were a year ago.

The price on all metals has dropped a considerable amount.

Manufacturers and retailers are charging prices that are not reflected by the cost of the raw materials.

We are buying at their prices because we are nuts.

And they will continue to charge high prices.

MidwayUSA is selling Lawrence magnum shot in 50lb boxes for $80 shipped to my door. That's pretty decent, at least these days.

If you live in that area you can just go down the road and buy it from the pistol parlor the same primers are $27.00. Not sure what his shot sells for.
