Colt Model 357:

1)Which is the least common barrel length(4" or 6")?

2)What would be a good "Estimate" for the percentage of the total Colt model 357 production, that whatever was the least common barrel length, of how many of these were made?

Tough call.
Higher grade Colt double action revolvers like the Python usually sold more 6" barreled versions.

The problem is, Colt's that were sold as police guns like the old model Trooper and the Trooper Mark III MIGHT have sold better in 4" barreled versions simply because of the police sales.

My best guess is, due to the fact that police agencies didn't buy the 357 due to the cost, I'll say that the 6" version was the biggest production.

By what percentage I couldn't even guess.
Colt would know, but I'm not sure how you'd find out.

Is the 6-inch barrel, less desireable as a collectible Colt 357?

dfariswheel:

In view of the "rarity" of the Colt Model 357's(Made 1953-1961)is the six-inch barrel, very much less desireable(Or, any less?)than would be the same gun, with the four-inch barrel(In terms of "Collectibility?)?

If you are referring to the Colt .357 (the target version of the Trooper) made from 1953 to 1961 there were only 15,000 of those produced.

Of the few that I have stumbled across most of them were 6" models.
All were more than I could afford and all were well worth the price.
Think of them as a light barrel Python.

As far as collect-ability, due to the low production I'd guess there is NO difference between the 6" and the 4".

If ANYTHING would make one 357 worth a little more than another in the SAME condition, it would be that one had factory original target hammer and stocks, and the other had service type.

Another factor would be vintage.
An early model would be worth more than a later model.

1)The 6-inch Colt ".357" does have the original target hammer and stocks! :D

2Unfortunately, this Colt ".357" was a later vintage gun, made in 1960(The same as my "Engraved" 4-inch!)Colt ".357"! :banghead:
