I have decided to start carrying my Hi-Powers some for SD. Unfortunately not a damn place in or around Tulsa, Ok. has leather actually made for the BHP.

In order to order one online and be comfortable with what I am buying without trying, I would like some advice on leather holsters for the BHP's. They can be OWB or IWB either one.

Thanks

Marshall :)

I consistantly recommend High Noon Holsters as among the best for entry level leather holsters. Starting at $25, and going up to maybe $50 for a nice tuckable, they are my consistant first choice. I've owned several and have been impressed by them all.

Above that price, there is Milt Sparks which is my first choice for premium leather. His Versa Max 2 is very popular though his Summer Special 2 suits me a tad better. Both are excellent.

There are a couple holster makers that are members of this forum that probably deserve your attention as well that come very highly recommended though I've never knowingly seen any of their work.

Well heck, I went to college in Miami for 2 yrs then to TU. I'll just drive my butt up there.

Thanks James

cratz2, are these holsters made especially for particular brands & models or, are they made in a generic sort of fit for a number guns?

High Noon's holsters are specifically molded to the gun, with the exception of the soft IWBs (e.g., the Mr. Softy -- just one of the catchy names they give their holsters). http://www.highnoonholsters.com

I have a Hume H715 (an IWB clip-on) for a Glock pistol. For a mere $27 you wouldn't expect detail molding or a reinforced lip, but this has both. The gun rides quite low in the waistband, which is good for concealment but not as good for a fast draw.

Dillon (the reloading people) show their "Master" OWB holster for the BHP. These are very good holsters for the money.

At a higher price but with commensurate quality is Bulman Gunleather. http://www.bulmangunleather.com

Marshall,

Many of us have several drawers full of holsters, especially if we have several guns.

One reason that we have so many and have spent so much money is that we did not see any reason to spend the money on a Sparks, Del Fatti, or Brommeland holster. There are other top makers, but I just mentioned three.

Then as time went on we were not entirely satisfied with the holster we had. Sometimes we spent a little more money, but still did not get what we really wanted.

ADVICE. Don't skimp on your holster and belt. Spend a little time and find out how you want to carry it and look at the sites, call and talk to the maker, and get a first class rig. It will cost less than half a case of premium ammunition, and last a lifetime. If you can afford to practice, you can afford $75 - $100 for a top holster.

I might add that El Paso Saddlery makes some fine belts at less price than most others. I have a couple of them and they are first class.

I have on order one from Rafter S, and it appears that they may just be the best buy on the market. I'll comment when I get mine.
A double thickness belt is a necessary part of a good carry system.

If you ever think kydex then Comp Tac makes as good as the best and better than the rest.

I have holsters by Hume, Galco, DeSantis, Uncle Mike, and some others I don't remember. They will all work, but until I got one from Sparks, I did not really know what a good holster was, and what a pleasure to own "the best." I have one on order, the I-BAK, and it is about twice the price of a Hume, and maybe less. so for another $30 I got what I wanted.
FWIW.

If you are going to do it, do it right.

Milt Sparks, Lou Alessi, Mitch Rosen.

I also have a double leather belt by Wild Bill's. It is as good as I would want. I bought last year during his Christmas Special offer. It was not here by Christmas, but it was worth the wait. I had ordered two, and one was for my son-in-law. I can highly recommend his belts. I do not have any of his belt holsters, but have a pocket holster and it fine.

A good thing about Rafter S belts is that you can get one in a shorter time than most other top makers.
