I have always loved the Leatherman Wingman and have carried one for years. I gave one away as a gift to a friend after I had been carrying it for many months, and I immediately bought a replacement. I had been carrying that one for a few months when I lost it on the ATV trails in the woods at my Uncle's farm in southern Ohio. It was clipped to my back pocket when it fell out as I sped through the woods on a four wheeler. I was very disappointed to lose it, but, considering how perfect the design and price are to me, I bought a replacement shortly after, which now sits in my front left pocket  .

Just a few days ago, my Uncle found my Leatherman deep into the trails and gave it to my Grandfather to give back to me. I thought you guys might find it as interesting as I do what shape it is in after 2 months sitting in dirt and leaves, being rained on and certainly run over countless times by 4 wheelers. I'm actually pretty impressed. There are a few spots with corrosion, and it has some dirt inside, but every tool is still able to be used. All of the pivots have some rust, but I can even still deploy the mostly rust free and sharp blade with one hand, and it locks nicely and unlocks and folds well enough. The scissors themselves work perfectly, but pulling them from the handle is particularly gritty and sticky. The spring in the pliers works great, and every tool is in functional condition despite the dirt and moderate rust.

The only damage is pretty odd- one of the two backsprings that hold the entire multitool either shut or open is snapped in half, with one side able to swing quite freely, however, the tool still stays shut ok, probably from grit, and when open to use the pliers, obviously your hands hold it in place. I really can't figure how that part would be broken when I see no damage, dents, or bent parts anywhere else on the multitool.

I am actually very impressed with how it held up to this unusual abuse, with just a bit of cleaning up it will still be a decent tool again. What will I do with it? It is going to join the Spyderco Pacific Salt I gave my grandfather on his fishing boat :D It will definitely see many years of good use yet.

Some CLP and elbow grease and she'll be mostly good to go fishin'. You can see the broken backspring in the 3rd pic.

I think Leatherman will repair these tools for free when they are damaged. I'd bet they will fix that spring for you.

That's great! Looks like I'll be getting my grandfather's new-to-him Leatherman a new backspring!

I have two Wingman's (Wingmen?). I lost one, and ended up replacing it. Shortly after, I found my lost one stuck in my recliner. Your story is obviously much better :) but I do have to agree they are amazing multi tools, especially at their price.

On a side note to these - should anyone get the chance, look up the Discovery Channel's production of "How It's Made" and they have an episode on these. Very cool to watch.

Really? Thanks for the heads up, that will be fascinating!
