Thanks for the responses guys. I've read all of them, and it's a lot of good information. I'm not worried much about quantity... I go to the range 2 or 3 times a week, and only shoot a hundred rounds, so I am thinking I could easily load up 200 or so rounds for each trip, and sustain that. I'm thinking I'll get the kit, since it's not too much of a gamble, and the other required items, and see where it gets me. If I like the kit, great, if not, it's only $110 out the door. I won't lose TOO much sleep over that.

For $250 out the door you can get a Lee Classic Turret which will produce (safely) at three or four times the rate you will get from a single stage. (50 per hour vs 150 to 200 per hour).

Just a thought. I started out on a single stage and shot for quite a few years before I finally went to a progressive, and then at last went to a turret for its optimal (for my needs) combination of simplicity and speed.

From what I know of your needs, that is my advice.

Lost Sheep

When I started out money was tight so I looked and looked. NO Internet then so looking meant going to the store, catalogs, what others that loaded used. I loved the Big presses RCBS, Lyman, Redding but the cost was not going to work out for me. The Lees of that time just, well seemed cheap. So I went with a RCBS special 5 kit. Only thing it did not have that I just could not live without was a powder measure. I loaded with dippers for what seemed like forever. That little press has went though hell and back, and still working. The scale in the kit was a 505 and is just as good now as it was when new. The uniflow I bought after a few months (forever really was not THAT long) is still on the job. BUT if I could do it all over now it would be with the LEE Classic Cast Turret kit. After loading a zillion rounds with my special 5 I bought a LCT. After using it for a few months all I can say is WOW and why did I wait so long to buy it! Get the LCT kit and buy a better scale later, then get a powder measure that can toss larger charges for rifle if you reload for one.
