Hello THR, need some help to purchase the right stuff to upgrade from a single stage to a turrent press setup.

I currently own the lee anniversary kit and I was thinking upgrading to a Lee classic turrent press. My shooting increased since I joined IDPA, shooting like 500 pistol rounds per month and it seems too much time consuming with a single press. Don't want to spend on a progressive, like a dillon or such.

(I assume the lee classic turrent press comes with a 4hole turrent already)

*LEE PRO AUTO DISK POWDER MEASURE
*Lee Auto-Disk Riser

Not sure if both Safety Prime and Lever Prime System that came in the anniversary kit will work on the turrent press.

What else should I look for?

Thanks.
Jay

I think you'll like the lee turret,I've had mine over 2yrs,thousands of rounds.9mm,40cal,223.I would like to suggest the micro adjustable charge though, then you won't need the rise.I use the double bump on rifle due to charge bar volume.

I use the Lee Classic Turret. I as well have loaded thousands of rounds. I use the adjustable charge bar with the auto disk riser and the pro auto disk measure.

The riser helps keep the powder measure higher. I used the adjustable charge bar by itself sometimes (lower powder amounts) and with a disk for higher powder amounts for rifle like 308 or 7.62x39. I really like the adjustable charge bar because you can dial in or fine tune the powder measurement. I had a hard time using the pro auto disk by itself.

Hope that helps.

You will really like the LCT press. There are a couple of threads that go into a lot of detail on this subject. You might try a search for some additional information. Don't know if your current accessories will work with the LCT or not.

your on the right track

single stage too slow. progressive too expenive.

I would go get tht lee classic turret pronto

The Classic Turret comes with one 4 hole turret, a mounting bracket for the safety prime system (its a different mount than the one used on the Challenger), large and small primer arms, and an extra indexing ratchet. The safety prime you have will work just fine with the Classic Turret. You are on the right track with the Pro Auto Disk and powder measure riser. I would suggest additional indexing ratchets (they are cheap), but assuming you have all you need to handload with the Challenger, you will be good to go with what you have listed.

I bought the LCT Kit form Cabelas in Dec. 07. It had pretty much everything needed. You can see what includes on there website. I understand Kempf has good prices as well. This is my first press, so I can't compare it to other big name stuff, but I love it.

Youll learn pretty quickly that you will strip the ratchet (mess up indexing) if you #1. short stroke the handle, & #2. try to rotate the turret (when changing turrets) with the handle up. Other than that it is great.

vjay, no one has the Lee Classic Turret (not turrent btw) kit with everything you need. Kempf includes the riser for the powder disk measure and a set of carbide dies of your choice. They also offer an upgrade to the Pro Auto Disk Powder Measure and large and small Safety Prime System. Grab these. Cabela's gives you the Balance Beam measure and some other goodies. Don't fret about what isn't in the kit. Just get what you need. The LCT will take care of the rest. One more thing: 2 plastic ratchets come with the press. The second one is usually in a small plastic bag usually. Some people, not knowing what it is for have thrown in away. If you see a little square thingie in a plastic bag, hang on to it. Good luck; let us know...

thanks everybody, I finally order from natchez:

[1] | [LEE90041] | [AUTO DISK RISER] | [ 6.49]
[1] | [LEE90302] | [LEE MICRO DISK & SPACER] | [ 6.49]
[1] | [LEE90064] | [CLASSIC TURRET PRESS] | [87.49]
[1] | [LEE90429] | [LEE PRO AUTO DISK POWDER MEASURE] | [32.49]

Ordered the lee micro disk too, for my CZ83 380acp loads.

I didn't find any indexing ratchets for turret press (sorry for the turrent thing earlier :)) on natchez website.

Natchez have great customer service for international orders (I'am not from the states ;) ). Kempf don't take international orders so I had to go with natchez.
Factorysales ships international too but I had a very bad experience before (2 months delay delivery!!)

Well in about a week I'll get my new press, will tell you how things went.

cheers
Jay

if you can't find the ratchet thing from anyone else, you can get it direct from Leeprecision.com. 2 for a dollar I think. There is a shipping fee, so buy several.

Finally got my turret press today and quickly mounted it into my bench...
Oh my god! It has nothing to do with my LEE breech lock press!!!!!

Just awesome , very solid and heavy duty. This is the second press I come across actually. Probably will reload tomorrow morning, can't wait.

Thanks everyone, I really liked my new press. :D

*docsleepy, thanks they do ship int. and spare ratchets are inexpensive (only 0.50 cents each)

cheers

Jim, I'am from Mexico, unfortunately few hunters & gun enthusiast here, mexican's gun laws are a real nightmare for law abiding citizens :(

Hunters usually reload their own ammo or have someone who reload for them since most of the time ammo is very scarce and expensive too, you can expect to pay 2 to 4 times what ammo cost in USA. The only thing you can always find here is 22LR and 12GA shotshells.

I didn't even bother with centerfire rifles, only reload 380acp and 38spl casting my own lead bullets, at least I can go to the range more often :D
