I'm putting together all the components for my first reloading setup. I've got a LCT that I'm supposed to pick up next week and now I'm putting together a list of all the other required parts. I'm planning on getting the Lee Pro Auto disk, the Lee Safety Prime, the swivel adapter, the auto riser, a couple extra turrets and the Lee reloading manual. I have a caliper and a friend is giving me the die sets that I need as well as a beam scale. What am I missing? I'd like to make one order and be done so any suggestions about else I'll need? As soon as I get all the pieces together I'm sure I'll have questions so try not to get annoyed at newbie questions:D. I plan on reading the manual cover to cover before attempting any reloading ( I'm kind of fond of all my fingers) and going slow at first. Thanks in advance.
 
A primer pocket reamer, and a [case mouth] chamfering tool. Just remember the dumbest questions are those that don't get asked.

At least two plastic loading blocks, a powder funnel and a can of Imperial Die Wax case lube if you gonna load bottle neck cases.

You can use a small screw driver as a primer pocket cleaner. You won't need a primer pocket reamer unless you plan to load surplus GI cases with crimped-in primers.
 
Thanks I've added those items to the list. I guess I should have stated that I plan on reloading mostly pistol rounds on the press, 9, .40 and 38/357.
 
You don't need to buy the swivel adapter, it comes on the pro auto disk. What else you need depends on what calibers you plan on reloading. For bottle neck cases you will need case lube, case trimmer and a chamfer/debur tool. For pistol you don't.
 
Pick up the Lyman manual too... It is good to have a second for comparison. You may also want to pick up a couple of the Lee Die Storage Boxes. They make excellent turret head storage containers. Lee factory crimp dies are also a good investment.
 
Didn't know that the swivel adapter came with the Pro, I'll take that off of the list. What is a good brand of tumbler for cleaning the brass?
 
Cabela's has their tumbler on sale right now. It is the one that I have, I find it works well, not the largest on the market so if you want to do a lot of cases at one time you may need to look elsewhere.
 
I, too, have the Cabela's tumbler....it works great and comes with the polish and media for less than $60 on sale.
 
If you're reloading just handgun ammo, you will never need to trim your cases unless you're shooting nothing but super-hot loads of .357 magnum. So, you can scratch a case trimmer, chamfer/deburr tool and lube kits off the list.

Also, flash hole and primer pocket cleaning is unnecessary with handgun ammo.

tom357mag mentions a factory crimp die....as long as you're going with the 4-hole classic turret press, the Lee Deluxe Carbide 4-die Set will have you covered.

For reloading guides, I'd recommend Speer #14 Lyman #49 and Hornady #7, they've all treated me well so far :)
 
Couple of thoughts from one LTC owner to another.

1) Not sure what dies your buddy is giving you but make sure they are carbide and then you need to figure out if they can be adapted to take the lee powder measure without buying another die. If it were me, I'd just buy the Lee 4 die sets. They work great and give you a full resize on the finished round (which can save you allot of grief at the range.)
2) Get two of the powder risers. Some die sets will still hit the primer system if you only use one riser. ( Commonly written about in reviews. Mine did as well.)

3) Yes, you don't need trimming tools for straight walled, low pressure handgun cases. By the time they get out of spec, they are ready to toss just from wear.

4) You don't need lube if your using carbide dies.

5)MidwayUSA has decent house brand tumblers, media, polish as well as all the parts and dies you might want for your LTC.

6) The Lee manual is OK but lacks much in load diversity. Check with powder and bullet manufacturers for good and safe load info before picking the proper match of powders and bullets.

Thanks for the two powder riser tip. I don't plan on reloading any rifle rounds right away but when I do I'll be loading 300wsm and .223 rounds. I guess that these both will load ok on the LCT, anyone have experience with either of these two calibers on this press? I'm not sure what type of dies my friend has but it makes sense to get the Lee 4 die sets so I'll have to wait and see what he has.
