LEE deluxe turret press kit

BUT, every week or so you have to unbolt the entire press to empty the spent primers from the press base
.
No sir. With a plug on the right-side press hole hole and a simple sheetmetal diverter, my primers all fall into a cup on the right side of the press.

I had made a funnel shaped hole under a different press mount that fed those primers into a tray. I switched to the above later on.

I also recommend the Classic cast press, unless you enjoy tinkering.

I bought the Deluxe Kit and then sent it back and got the Classic. I called Kempf's but the guy sounded like I woke him up from a nap and couldn't care less if I bought anything from him, so I bought it from Cabela's. I ended up buying most of the pieces separate because the kit was on back order until 9/20

I had a similar experience with One Kempf employee.

Sue Kempf is the salt of the Earth. Infinitely helpful, even as she was taking care of a friend in the hospital (June/July 0f 2010). I was all set to buy a whole bunch of stuff when someone from Kempf's accused me of "abusing their web site" because I was assembling several different order configurations (was trying to sort out the shipping charges for a mass buy). He sent a rude and UNSIGNED email and did not explain the "abuse" or offer any help whatsoever.

I recommend you contact Kempf's, ask for Sue and relate to her the story. I did, but I was just one customer complaining and did not have a name.

@Lost Sheep:

I also asked the guy at Kempfs if the kit contained the Deluxe or Classic turret press. His response was, "they only make one turret press". So, aside from giving a half a** answer to my question, it was apparent he didn't know what he was talking about. I figured I wouuld have trouble if there was a problem with my order so I passed on them

I am glad you all put that info about Kempfs, I refrain from purchasing from businesses that treat their customers as inept or are short with them, I will get mine from Cabelas...

Treegunner,

I urge you to contact Sue Kempf or anyone else in management there and let them know.

I have high confidence that they will sort it out and provide "education" for their wayward staff. If they don't get feedback from disgruntled customers, how can they improve themselves?

I started out with the LDT press kit and I have never really had any issues with it. If you are that finicky with the spent primers that one in ten hit the floor, oh well. I have loaded thousands of rounds 9mm/.40/.45/.223/.243 with mine and have never had any issues. I unbolted it I think twice to clean out spent promers, no big deal. I think it was a great way to get into loading. SInce my first Lee press, I also bought a Lee single stage kit, and now the crown jewell of my collection, I invested in a Hornady LNL AP with case feeder. I did have to remove the LDT from the reloading bench, but it will get reinstalled when I get my garage cleaned out again. Lee make good stuff. Goodl luck and have fun!

True, true. It is a very small thing. But like the water drop torture, it gets to me with every one. Besides, it is not only the primer, but the primer dust that goes down the tube (or misses the Deluxe base). It irritated me every time I used my Pro-1000 (which has the same base as the Deluxe Turret).

Plus, the Classic Turret is cast iron as opposed to the softer aluminum, has a taller opening to fit long cases and your fingers, a larger diameter ram, which increases bearing surface, reducing wear and enhancing alignment and more steel parts in the linkage, reducing the incidence of linkages breaking.

All in all, a superior design (which takes nothing away from the quality of the Deluxe Turret's design) which operates exactly as the Deluxe turret does, so the differences are not critical, but so some, significant. To others, not so much.

Diversity of taste is a good thing.

What Lost Sheep said. I recently had the right side of the "toggle" ( two-part linkage from the lever to the ram) snap off. It's Cast Aluminum. The Classic's is "steel".

It was only $3 + S&H, but the press was down for 4 days. It did give me time to finally clean "all of it" at the same time.
