Im looking for a scope mount to replace the rear sight on my lee en field no1 mk3 rifle. But im not sure if i need the rear rings around the bolt in order to properly mount one of these. Could someone tell me if i need the rings around the top of the bolt to mount one of these?

Do you want to keep it authentic, or make it effective? There are a few mounts that will fit between the charging bridge and the breech (ATI makes them and they tend to mount a bit high), and one mount that will mount a scope at "scout distance" just ahead of the receiver (XSSightsystems).

I believe the XS Sightsystems will allow use of the rear sight, but I don't think it's compatible with a full stocked SMLE

I'm liking the one posted just previously; it doesn't look like it would interfere with anything that couldn't be put back to 'as-issued'.

It has already been sporterized. I wish i could upload a pic but i cant seem to do it. When it was sporterized it had the ring that goes from the right side of the bolt housing and then over the bolt to the left side, about mid way down the bolt, chopped off.

Yeah that sounds like the charger bridge. If it is a No1 Mk1 put the hacksaw down and step away. Any dates on the rifle? Would be under the bolt handle on the metal band. Any makers marks above the date such as BSA, Lithgow, RFI?

I didnt do the work, it was that way when i bought it.

its got a crown then either a G or C followed by an R
then BSA C then o with a line under it
1917
S followed by an HT with a line under it, the LE (which i assume means Lee Enfield)
then III*

once again i stress I DID NOT SPORTERIZE IT. it was that way when i bought it.
