have 45-70 with short throat .bullets press into the rifling if seat and crimp at crimp groove of the rcbs 405 gr. lead fpgc ,have lee fcd for jsp, if seat lead bullets deaper and crimp on top driving band with lee fcd will it be strong enuff to keep bullet from being pushed deeper into case from mag spring and keep it from pulling out from recoil? gun is win 1886 EL

the lee factory crimp die gives just about the best crimp out there. On any rifle with a tube magazine you need to make sure you have a good crimp. Especially on guns like the 30-30. Otherwise the bullet go deeper into the case when loading the magazine. i use the lfcd all the time. it does a great job.

But if you crimp to much on lead bullets it might re size them undersized to your bore and cause leading and inaccuracy.

The LCD does not size!!!! Only the Lee Carbide Crimp Die for straight wall handgun cartridges sizes when the bullet is oversize. 45-70 is not a straight wall case, so, a carbide crimp die is not available, only the Factory Crimp die!!! and yes it will solve you crimp problem on the 45-70 tubular magazine.
