You can test the sizing ring theory by swapping the crimping die body and the expander die body. I prefer to use the universal expander die because it is smoother and I use the pistol charging die.
This way I have a separate crimp die, but don't have to deal with the sizing ring. Some guys knock the sizing ring out, but I can reverse course and use the sizing ring die body if I ever need to do so.
