I was loading some 44 mag with my reloader overe the winter and I broke the decapper pin off of the rod. I also set off several primers inside.(no injuries, just the dogs were flipped out a little).
Called Lee on Wednesday to buy a new decapper and they sent one out for free. It came in 2 days. Lee Cs rocked for me.

Anyway, any idea why I set off several primers with my lee loader? I can't figure it out.

If you're using a Pro1000, You had a canted primer in the primer assembly when you seated the primer. This can and does result in a primer detonation. I did it "once".

This is why Lee dosen't recommend anything except CCI or Winchester primers. Though, I do continue to use Federal......

Go a little slower with cycling the press. Moving too fast can cause the primers to get joggled causing the canted primers...

Lee has changed their "official" position on their warranty, but they have had the "UNBREAKABLE" decapper pin warranty all along. Usually, a broken decapper is the result of an object in the case (spent primer?).

Just something that happens with the Lee Loader. I still use a Lee Loader when working up loads at the range, very handy. However I usually use a hand primer for primer seating which elevates the problem.

Yes their customer service is top notch.

I'll definately proceed more carefully. They are pretty loud!
Yes, light taps. Ensure the primer is centered in the "pit" throughout the operation.

Just in case there was a mixup when your loader was shipped, see if there is "play" in your primer seating tool. Does the case (without putting a primer in place yet) have room to move side-to-side in the tool? If you tap with the case and primer not lined up properly, you might cruse the side of the primer with one blow and set it off with the next. You might look at the primer after the first tap and see.

Eye protection, and at least glove the hand holding the loader. Ear plugs wouldn't hurt, either. (Pardon me if I am stating the obvious.)
