I bought one of these for my .45 ACP cases and my .30 M1 Carbine cases. The first thing I did was to trim off the hand crank handle, and attach a male fitting to the cutter shaft...so I could use a power screwdriver on it. After following the instructions to the LETTER, I wasn't pleased with the variation in trimmed lengths (.002 -.004 variation)...:cuss: I removed the crappy Lee Lock Ring...the one with the rubber "O" ring, and ran it up upside down, with out the "O" ring, till it was tight to the top. This left me .004 too long (consistently) on the trimmed case. I locked the knurled end in the vise, then tightened the lock nut a bit further...in increments...until I hit the trimmed length I needed. Now, when I run the trimmer into the press and snug it by hand, it trims the cases PRECISELY...EVERY time. A bit of a chore to set up, but all I need to do now is run it into the press and have at...:D

So you took a $18 trimmer, modified it and then got upset because the trim was 4 one-thousands of an inch off, really?

If you left the hand crank on you could have felt when the brass was completely trimmed not that .002" to .004" is a big deal for what you paid to buy the trimmer.

Add all that to the fact that .45ACP brass doesn't need to be trimmed anyway. (Unless you're going to roll crimp and shoot heavy loads out of a revolver.)
