I have the Lee 4 die set for .45 and 9mm.
When I first started to reload I used the factory crimp die as the finial step.

I decided to adjust the seating die so that it would crimp the bullet and save me a step in my reloading process. I have reloaded and shot about 200 rounds of .45 now and have not had any problems. with feeding and what not. When the round comes out of the die I have a bright copper ring around the bullet and can see slight slope into the bullet.

Am I over crimping? should I back off the crimp a bit?

Thanks

On .45 ACP and 9mm X 19...YES...All you need to do is remove the bell and no more. It is possible to over crimp these and any other round that head space on the case mouth and allow them to seat in the chamber too deep and have a miss fire due to the firing pin not able to reach the primer.

Yep. Just remove the belling, and a touch more. I have to use magnification to see the Taper Crimp on my auto rounds.

Taper, not roll. I made this mistake on my first 50 rounds of 9mm, and they chambered very poorly. Remove the bell, and lightly taper crimp.

Back off the seating die and use the FCD as the final step.

You can't go wrong with it.
