I have been using Bullseye loading 45acp, it meters very well and consistent, I have some AA#7 that I was using for some XTP's and it makes a huge mess. It is too fine an leaks around the disks. What other powders for 45acp meter as well as Bullseye? I don't have a good local source for Bullseye but they have other powders so I would prefer having options. Thanks in advance

So it leaks for smaller grained AA#7, but not for Bullseye?

Winchester 231, Hodgdon HP38, Alliant Green Dot, Ramshot Zip, IMR 700X are same size as Bullseye and slower burning for less "snappy" recoil. Hodgdon HS6 and Winchester Super Field are even slower burning for "push" recoil than "snap"

All of these are same size as Bullseye and great powders for 45 ACP.

I'll confirm that AA#5, AA#7, and Ramshot's True Blue will all leak from the Lee AutoDisk measures. There is no way to stop it completely, for the actuating arm lever's slot alllows it to dribble past the base and out onto the press.

However, it that leakage does NOT impact the charge weight, and all three of these can meter accurately--e.g., plus-or-minus one-tenth grain. The leakage can be minimized--as GP100man said, check the hopper or the disk for wear, and if you have the round hopper with the elastomer wiper, replace the wiper if it is worn. Tweaking the hopper screw tightness can also help.

I estimate the wasteage to be on the order of 2% to 5% when things are tweaked up.

FWIW--

Well, you asked...

Best metering for 45acp:

Any VihtaVuori powder.
N320 is great and very clean.
N310 if you favor very clean Clays-like fast powders in 45acp.
N340 if you favor very clean slow powder.

Note: Before you think VV is too expensive, look at the tiny charges of N310 you use for 200 and 230 grain bullets. For my 45acp loads, I use 71 cents worth of Unique to load 50 rounds, and I use 79 cents worth of N310 to load 50 rounds. Not gonna break the piggy bank.

I have the same Auto Disk hopper from 1995 and it does not leak powder (W231/HP38, Bullseye, HS6, etc.) - maybe a few particles of powder here and there over several hundreds of cycles. The original Auto Disk set has over 250K rounds loaded and I can't feel any wear - just a bit shiny, that's all.

I do not clean the "black residue" completely off the wiper/disk surface since it's dry graphite lubricant off the powder. I just wipe off the loose excess and leave the rest.

Of course, the new Auto Disk hopper on the second Pro 1000 does not leak. I have not used AA #7, so I can't comment.

I find W231/HP38 meter best with less than 0.1 grain variance charge to charge.

I'll second that! I use 3.8 to 4.2 grs n320 for any 124 grain jacketed bullets. (3.8 for MG JHP = 1842 rds/lb of powder)

It meters great on the Lee Auto Disc , shoots clean, doesn't seem to be positional, didn't change chrono speed with a 70 deg temp drop, and costs very little more to use.

Good lord how I hate that Auto-Disk contraption!

Messy, imprecise, and unreliable from Day One.

I did try my best to put up with it.
I had one of the original ones. Maybe they have gotten better.

For those of you that have one and are satisfied, you have my praise.
For those of you who have not subjected yourself to this headache, you are warned.

I use the Auto Disk pro with W231 for .45 auto. I have always used the adjustable charge bar and have never used the disks.
The bar works great and is quick to adjust.

Thank you!

Just a side note. I have setup many Lee Pro 1000 for other shooters and make them stick to the same process I use:

- Clean and lube all moving contact parts before each session (normally 500-2000 rounds for me)
- Check for proper function and make necessary adjustment (i.e. shell plate timing)
- If run into resistance/malfunction, STOP and investigate instead of applying more force that often break or wear parts.
- Clean and lube as necessary

With sized/primed cases, the Pro 1000 requires just the use of 2-3 finger pressure to actuate the Auto Disk powder hopper/flare case on station 2 and seat/crimp the bullet on station 3.

All of these setups produce match grade reloads and they have not reported problems often mentioned on various THR threads.

For those of you who have not subjected yourself to this headache, you are warned.
I am quite certain that you can avoid much of the headache if you follow the above mentioned process. YMMV

I have loaded 1,200 rounds using 4gr of Bullseye, I don't see any wear. This isn't the pro it is the standard. Thanks for the input
