I am right handed but left eye dominant and have been shooting left handed since I got into centerfire rifles over half a life time ago. I've tended to gravitate towards designs like the M1A and AK that are more lefty friendly. However a recent article I read on the DS Arms Para Congo FAL has rekindled an old flame. While I will say I think the M14 is the better DMR/sniper platform, I think the votes are in an the FAL should probably hold the distinction of the finest battle rifle. Plus they are sexy rifles to me. So I want to know how any lefties out there have done with the FAL in terms of operating the controls. Is it workable with practice or should I just forget about it and focus on designs that are better suited for me?

Not a lefty, but have a FAL. I think the biggest problem is that you have to remove your shooting hand from the pistol grip to retract the bolt. Although an AR is no prize there either. Safety can be operated by rotating your hand around the pistol grip (think curl). Mag release is behind the mag, so no problem there. Brass gets thrown way over yonder at about 2 o'clock. So that is no problem..... I have fired mine left handed just to try it. I think you would be alright. You should try before you buy. Good luck with your decision....I'd let you try mine, but you are a little far away...
