Ok all you left handed people, this question is for you. Do you find that the cast in a right handed gun throws your shooting off or is it just in your head?
Reason I asked, is that the guy I shoot skeet and trap with is a lefty and he shoots a mossberg 500 with no problem. However he bought a spartan spr310 and says that he can't shoot it because of the cast in the stock. I think it's in his head. You no how heads are sometimes. Any input.

A Mossberg is not left or right handed afaik, its straight. I bet he has fun with the doubles on a round of skeet with a pump action :)

Actually I saw him break 30 in a row on skeet on a wednesday night and then on the next Sunday he had 24 broken and missed his last clay for 25. He is a pretty good shot with the ole Mossberg.

If you want a lefty gun, Remington makes a lefty 870, so does Charles Daly. Or, there is they ever popular Ithaca 37 which ejects from the bottom... Personally, I've never had any problems with shottys. My sucky shotty shooting (say THAT three times fast) stems from my negligence at practice not my left-handedness

My Beretta O/U has a bit of cast off, suitable for a RH shooter. Shooting it from the port side is a bit uncomfortable and unproductive.

Interesting!! Just yesterday I bought Savage GoldWing O/U 12 gauge and haven't shot it yet. After reading this post, I got the gun out and laid it on a flat countertop, first on one side and then the other. Looks like it has at least a 1/2" castoff for a right-hander. I'm a leftie, so it will be interesting to see how it shoots for me. It feels great in my hands, and comes up to my shoulder/sight real good, so I'm not going to touch the cast until I see how it shoots for me. I'm short - 5'7" - so maybe it will have no effect. (read on another thread that a tall guy w/ wide shoulders was affected more.)

Having shot many guns with left hand cast (I'm a righty) I don't think it makes much of a difference if you are shooting a pre-mounted game like skeet or trap. You will adjust to the bend when you mount the gun. However with a low gun game the gun doesn't come up with the barrel aligned where it needs to be.

Most euro guns come with cast for a right hand shooter. North American guns generally come straight while the Japanese products can vary considerably. I've seen Brownings that were dead stright and others with a significant right hand cast.
