Legal length?

Can someone please tell me the legal minimum length of a shotgun/barrel?

So... is the length measured from the end of the barrel (on semi's and pumps) that resides in the reciever?

This would add as much as 3" to the length, making the bore actually shorter than 18"

Or, is it on all shotguns measured from the edge where the shell head would be to the end of the muzzle?

I'm curious also.

If I understand you correctly, thats it. The test is to close the action and run a dowel or stick down the barrel to measure from the bolt face to the open end of the barrel.

Shotgun = 18" barrel.

AOL = 26"

Measured from muzzle to locked or closed breach-face.

RC's numbers are correct but I always add at least 1/2 inch to just make sure there is no question..

It's also good to leave the 1/2 inch just in case you ding the crown of the barrel it can be dressed down and still be legal.
