Nope that snubby with the 5 foot barrel is perfectly legal to own and carry concealed if you have a CCW license. It may hang down a bit, but passersby will just think you are running for office.

I was under the impression there was a max barrel length, but no OAL restriction. I don't really know where I got this "impression" am I just showing my ignorance?

EDIT:
I can't imagine I'm correct as some of the buntline revolvers have 18" barrels. That's longer than the required min for rifles.

Yep just showed my ignorance, just never thought about it.

yep.

No maximum.

It might get pretty damn inconvenient to carry and holster, but as long as it is designed to be fired one handed it remains a hand gun.

You might get some argument if it became so large it required two hands (along the type of reasoning that a shotgun without a but stock is no longer a long gun).

Under a listing of strange laws, there used to be a 19th Century law in Washington DC that made it a crime to carry a concealed weapon that was over six feet long!

I not sure I want to meet the person who can conceal a 6ft weapon...

There may be a maximum legal length to qualify as a handgun for hunting. There is here, it's 16".
STATE law most likely.

The feds do not have all that many hunting regulations, leaving this regulation to the individual states.

The target model Buntline.... My standard Buntline just seems so inadequate now.

In OK the max length of a pistol for carrying (open or concealed) is 16 inches. The law doesn't specify if that's barrel length or max gun length, but either way my new Buntline holster will have to collect some dust for the time being.

Just a few laws for waterfowl & migratory birds (and protected species, of course). I am not aware of any federal regulation for small & big game hunting.
