I recently sold a gun to a friend of mine after I needed some cash and he wrote me a recipt saying he bought the gun on that particular day,hes an older guy who has a concealed weapons permit and he put his name and driver's license number on the recipt. my question is was this legal to do under florida/federal law? I've heard that it is legal but I've also heard that its not the latter after the fact can anyone tell me if this is ok? Hes a good guy but if anything ever happened with the gun down the road like if he sold it or it was stolen or anything would I be in any legal trouble? I realize it beyond my control what happens to the gun now as its his I have no reason to believe that anything will happen cause if I did I would not have sold him the gun but was just wondering thanks.

As far as I know, it is legal. I bought a S&W 5906 about a week ago from a guy I met online, on a local message forum that I am on. I met him, gave him the cash, and he gave me the gun.

This is Florida.

Hell, I'm 20 years old and I just bought a CZ-75B from some guy on Glock Talk. No waiting period, no stupid 4473, and no hassles. Thank God for face-to-face, in-state sales. :)

Private sales are fine. No paperwork required.

The only caveat that I remember is that the seller must have no reason to think that the buyer is not leagally able to own the firearm.

Meaning, if you know he is a violent felon, you can not sell to him.

I like private sales. My favorite deal is to go somewhere, meet some guy Ive never met before, hand him cash and get a gun in return or vice versa. It makes me feel like I am striking a blow for liberty because there is no way the Feds can trace the gun to me. Even if the thing is used in a crime later on, if they come and ask you you can tell them honestly you sold the gun and dont know what happened to it after that.
This is an area I could see the Dems going after, banning private sales. Good luck enforcng it.

Rabbi - That's kinda neat UNLESS the gun has a history that you really don't
want to be a part of. :(

I've got my name on so many 4473's in so many places I doubt one more will
make any difference.

If anybody does come to take my guns away, they will want all they can find,
4473's or not.
