So a while back Cabelas had Lellier & Bellot 9mm ammo cheap, and I picked up a few hundred rounds. I took two of the boxes two the range the other day and noticed something really odd. The first box of 50 had normal noise and recoil compared to the Wolf and Winchester ammo I used in the past. Well the next box was a lot louder as well as had a noticeable increase in recoil. It wasn't a couple strange rounds, it was the whole box. So it would seem it was a hotter load than the other boxes I've used before.

Now I triple checked both boxes. Both were marked as 115gr FMJ. I would think this would be unusual, but has anyone else had similar experiences with this or other brands of ammo?

Oh, and if anyone cares, it was a Ruger SR9. Man, I love that gun.

Whoops, shouldn't have said that. I'll probably get made fun of for putting L&B and Wolf through it then, huh? :)

You mean Sellier & Bellot?

S&B is good plinking ammo. That's about all I'd rate it at. Even in a Saiga (AK-47 variant), I could tell tell the group size was significantly worse compared to other brands such as Black Hills. The one very good thing, though, is that it always burns clean, and can thus be better than Wolf for large-caliber rounds.

I've had nothing but good ammo from S & B. A lot of their ammo is hotter than our downloaded stuff. Their standard .38 is like our +P.

In my experience S&B = good stuff.

I'm not sure why you seem to have such a large difference between boxes, especially boxes that you bought at the same time.

Check the lot number on the flap of the box. See if they are the same lot. I love S+B for practice. I have had no problems with it. At times, some of the loads do seem a little hotter.

S&B is European. Europe and the US have different pressure limits on various calibers (the greatest difference is .38 special - now downrated to 15,000 psi in the US, still 20,000 psi in Europe). Many S&B loads are loaded to European, not US standards. Can't comment on yours, but that may the case.

I have only used one box of 50 rnds. of the 9mm but I didn't have any problems with it. Only reason I haven't bought more is because it wasn't available the last time I went to the range.

It's good stuff. I've always noticed it was a little hotter than American ammo. I use S&B in my .45acp.
