Hello, I went ahead and picked up a box of 454 hornady round balls until I get a lyman mould for .454. If anyone does need a .457 lyman two ball mould I will trade for a excellant condition lyman 2 ball in 454........... but anyways the Lemat I bought did not have the manuals in the box. What the max powder charge in these...........both for the 44 cal. cylinder and the grapeshot barrel ( grin)? Thanks again, Craig

Nuttin' like the anticipation of that first shot through a new one ! I've got seven more of those to savor myself.

Have you miked the chambers on your LeMat? Mine are .445 and even a .451rb taxes the loading lever. I think a .457 would be oversize. The Manual calls for .451's and I shave a good ring with .451 rb.
I load 28-30gr under a grease cookie and .451rb. I think a 32-33gr load is all you have room for.
For the shot barrel the manual states 25gr. That load well just about get the shot out of the barrel. I have loaded the shot barrel as high as 60gr and have settled in on a 50gr load for buck shot and patched rb.

The Bates & Cumpston book, "Percussion Pistols & Revolvers history, performance & practical use" has a chapter on shooting the LeMat. Lot of good info.
