There's a local gun dealer who has a used Les Baer Concept 5 for sale for $1600. I looked at it, it looks to be in good condition and broken in. Is $1600 a good deal for this 45 ACP pistol? Thanks for your opinions

looks like the current list price is around $2,400 so I'd say it's not too bad. I have a Les Baer TRS and an AR-10. They make excellent products so if you have the funds I say it's a decent deal.

Compare that price with those found on Gunbroker.

There's one stainless steel Les Baer on Gunbroker for $1400 but it's not listed as a Concept V but it sure looks like the same gun, then there's a Concept V for $2k, so the one I'm looking at appears to be fairly priced. The ones on gunbroker looked very clean, that is, the one I looked at at this store looked used, not dirty per say, but not shiny either.

If a gun looks like it has been abused or neglected, it probably has been and should be avoided unless you get a good guarantee.

It does not look abused, but it does look used. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't a good 1911 get better with use, that is, doesn't it get broken in and really in its prime if it's used, and cared for?

Maybe I belong in Special Ed, but I have always found it took some mental gymnastics to differentiate between the Les Baer models of the Earlier years especially. Mine is 20 or so years old and for the life of me I can’t remember the exact model, just that it’s a Premier such and such.....I think? They seem to have simplified their nomenclature in the later years somewhat.

Les Baer never made any crappy firearms. Don't worry about the model if it has the options you want on it already.

I have not bought it. I offered $1400 and seller said yes. It's on consignment. It passes the first glance test, but upon further inspection it has some scrapes and scratches. Has it been abused, I have no idea. It's a metal gun, it's made of steel and if it has some scrapes and "dents" does that mean it's been abused? Was it just dropped on the ground? I dunno...

But I can get it for $1400 and I can probably fix the scrapes buy replacing the part (not the slide). The writing on the slide is worn a little. That's the first clue that told me it is used.

But it sure feels nice in my hand, and again, racking the slide it's just smooth. I only get one magazine with the gun, and that is it, nothing else. I don't think it's even been cleaned, so the first thing I'm gonna have to do is field strip it and clean it...

The thumb safety lever has scraps on it, but not the slide nor the frame/grip. The checkered grips look ok (the wood part and the front and back of the grip, the metal area).

Sounds like a fair price for a used (and possibly neglected), Les Baer. Keep us posted after you get it and have a chance to give it a thorough cleaning and to check it out completely.

I've got a Concept V. that I've used for years in IDPA and a couple defensive pistol classes, it has lots of "character" in the form of scrapes and scratches. Everything I own get's that way sooner or later.
