I noticed the lack of rails on compact and even full sized pistols lately.
The guns got smaller over the past 2-3 years. I guess it makes sense. I don't have any railed guns in my lineup, except the XDS. The rest of them, would lose their compact size usefulness if I put a TLR or a laser on one.
For home protection it may still make sense, although a separate tac light works better for me. Same with lasers, all these things take up precious room larger holsters and the element of surprise, for me NS work the best.

Rails are a good thing to have. Using them is up to discretion of the owner. The room they take up on a firearm is negligible at best. All of my firearms have rails to carry a light/laser combo. I consider a light and/or laser to be a tactical advantage, not disadvantage. Yes the holster to carry a firearm with an accessory was a bit more (+$5 extra) but I see that as money well spent, certainly cheaper than the light/laser itself ($300). If I am ever in a situation where I don't need it, it stays off.
