Kind of off the wall but just one of those things that you do and then think back and go, Hmmmmmmmm.

I carry IWB and bought a new pair of jeans. I did not even realize that the metal stud that they use going through by the front pocket (in some brands, not all) was rubbing on my gun all day. Took it off at bedtime to see a big old scratch on it down on the side by the front sight. Well, not a scratch but more of the stud just rubbing up on it and taking off the blueing.

Now I have to find a fix for the gun to perty it up again. I sewed some thicker cloth over the jean stud so it wont happen again.

Lesson learned. New jeans + IWB Carry = check for metal pieces inside. LOL I can say I totally didn't even think about that happening and doubt it will ever happen again.

I figure my carry gun is gonna get a little ugly with age so I don't sweat it. I carry a G26, a not fancy by anyone's standards weapon. It was new a year ago, and it has some boo boos now. I think a carry pistol is a tool, to be used and worn. If it is concealed, it's appearance means nothing to anyone but me.

I think to myself when I see a pistol with holster wear and use (not abuse) marks, that the guy holding it is for real. If his gun has some character, it usually means the guy holding it shoots and carries allot.

If you wear Levi jeans it will happen OWB by the front pocket also if you barrel isn't fully covered on the backside. Eventually the copper marks came out of the parkerization on my 1911.
Not that i care, Its a ccw gun i like wear on it.

Most likely this is the copper rubbed off on the gun, not an actual scratch into the metal. If the gun is not nickel plated, rubbing the mark with a copper solvent on a rag should mostly or wholly remove it. You make a good point about checking clothing for things like this. Clothing is just as much a part of your "carry system" as the holster, belt and spare ammo carrier. When I check a prospective pair of pants for the depth and thickness of material of the pockets, I probably got odd looks. :D

Get a better holster and this shouldn't be an issue. My gun is completely covered by my IWB holster except for the grip.

+1

I assume that my carry gun is gonna be scratched up...I wipe it off each day, but whatever hapens to it, happens to it...if i have to use it, I assume its gonna be taken for evidence anyways...

Carry pieces are meant to show some wear.

All my shooting buddies would call me a poser if my glock or whatever else I may be carrying didn't have some finish rubbed off somewhere...

I agree with those who say that any gun regularly being holstered, regularly carried, etc. is going to eventually show what some would consider "wear."

Well, it a way, it is WEAR, just like if you like to drive a lot, the odometer shows your car has 110,000 miles on it and even if it is a creampuff, it might still show "wear" or "wear & tear."

I also agree that my carry pieces don't need to look perfect. My full size work van which I bought brand new in 2003 doesn't look brand new, because it isn't brand new. If I went to sell it, it would be considered "clean" as all of my carry guns are -- just that -- CLEAN!

An old fellow who was my neighbor in the 60's had a Rambler with some dings and scratches. I would be out washing my car every day and waxing it every weekend. One time I asked him how come he never washes his car. He looked at the car, looked at me at said to me, those aren't dings and scratches, those are BEAUTY-MARKS!

So, that is the way I look at my weapons. They don't show a lot of wear, some just happen to have beauty marks!

Great comments ! I 100% agree about it being a carry gun and it's going to show signs of use/wear.

I am new'ish to CCW and still getting over the mind set of keeping all my guns looking good. I have absolutely no plans on ever selling my carry gun (S&W M&P 40) so I will be working on getting over that mind set for a bit longer I expect. I sewed some fabric over these metal parts (Wrangler Jeans) so that problem no longer exists.

I will keep my eyes out for another IWB holster, It's just the one I have now is so comfortable ( Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe ).

Ramman,
If it's a Supertuck, then you should be able to adjust the ride heighth. Maybe you can move it up where the rivet is hitting the Kydex and not the gun. I am in the same boat as new, new to CCW, and don't like my stuff scratched up either. I, too, am learning to live with some wear on my CCW's.

A carry gun should look well-used. Think of your gun as an old warrior, with honorable scars.

That said, no part of the pants should contact the gun -- because the result could be snagging and preventing or slowing your draw. I make my holsters so the leather throat is about an inch above the trouser/belt line.

Yes, it will happen again - eventually that piece of cloth will wear thru and rub against the gun.

You really should consider a better holster.
