Lets drop the anti-Obama threads please!

With respect, Absolutely not.
Can we please stop with these threads? Until the law actually takes effect, there is nothing to worry about.

Until my house starts burning, there is no reason to worry about that wildfire.
Until my car hits bottom, there is no worry about running off that bridge.
Until my wife serves divorce papers, there is no reason to worry about our marriage.
Until that pregnancy test shows positive, there's no reason to worry about using that 'protection' stuff.
Until the server brings my plate, there's no reason to worry about that restaurant's health score.

The Obama administration is a self-described AWB supporter. Obama nominated Andrew Traver to head the ATF. I think its OK to pay attention and discuss any potential legislation on a, you know, discussion board.

Obama has said repeatedly he supports the 2nd amendment, except for reasonable gun control, such as the assault weapons ban and high capacity magazine bans, and just a few other things like importation bans, one gun a month plans, and gun free zones.

Look I understand frustrations on it however.
1. Obamas administration has now said within 2 weeks they will call for more gun control.
2. We have numerous congressman either submitting bills to committee, proposing and drawing them up, or getting airtime telling everyone that the majority of Americans support AWB and the like.
3. We have a serious education issue with a large portion of the population in regards to 2a and carry.

IMO, we need to avoid playing out the tortoise and the hare scenario. Getting cocky about SCOTUS and our advances and sitting back and waiting till we are way behind. Then we have to deal with another AWB or restrictions.

IMO, we should be planning now. Calling our reps now. Getting camera time, writing editorials, now. Cause the other guys ARE doing that. When these guys are behind closed doors talking about getting support for a bill before it is submitted we want our Reps to look at them and say "H**L No! You know how many calls and emails I have already on that!?"

Soon as this stuff hits the press ammo prices will be up through the roof again, I won't be able to find a round at Walmart even. Firearm prices will go berserk again. We need to hit this now.

I might as well weigh in here.

I can't say anything good about any of the current crop of left over politicians si I wont stir the pot.

I do however agree that the only way to stop this stuff is Preemptive rather than waiting till its at our door step.

Fire any politician that signs on to any new Controls.

I dont like any politicians so bashing any one in particular is a waste of time.

there are threads that I never comment on

There are channels that I subscribe to via cable service that I never tune to

My radio is capable of picking up far more channels than I care to listen to.

Heck, there are even (you ready?) guns that I have no desire to own :what:

Women that I don't want to date.

Just because something doesn't appeal to me is not a reason for me to ask others not to participate.

since you find threads that you don't want to participate in annoying it is apparent that your mileage varies.

Kingpin, is that the strategy used in Maryland? Aren't gun laws pretty strict there?

Gun laws are somewhat strict here, but we've also defeated a proposed AWB that's come up for vote for the past half-decade plus. Last year, we missed out on getting our asinine CCW law changed by ONE vote. This year, we've got them on the run. All of our efforts in this state have been grassroots, by the way. Good old-fashioned letter writing, emailing, calling offices and showing up in person to testify.

So yes, we've got our issues, but we know how (and more importantly WHEN) to fight if we need to.

To be clear, I don't think anyone who is seeking an end to these "what if" threads is advocating that we ignore it issue - to suggest as much is ludicrous. We simply think that the energy is better spent working on proactive measures to maintain our gun rights, rather than wringing hands and worrying what the future may bring.

For all interested, below is a link to a website that will allow you to locate the contact info for your state's congress critters. A strongly (but politely) worded letter sent to these folks goes a long way towards counter-acting whatever nonsense Mr. Obama may or may not have in mind.

There have been a lot of threads recently started that point out that sources inside the Obama administration say that the gun control issue is not dead and that Obama will bring it up shortly. There have also been numerous calls by some congressmen to re-enact magazine and assault weapons bans.

Can we please stop with these threads? Until the law actually takes effect, there is nothing to worry about.

No.

The reason no law is taking effect right now, is because of the pressure us gun owners have exerted on our elected officials, Obama included. Guns are the new 3rd rail of politics because of our grass-roots activism and I intend to keep it that way.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with periodically writing your congressman or senator reminding them of your position on gun rights, abortion, or anything else you have on your mind. We are fortunate in our district to have a state representative who keeps us abreast of what is going on in important areas.

Waiting til a bill comes out of committee is way too late. The lines are already likely drawn. Also, it does no harm to thank them periodically if they have supported you on issues you feel are important. Some of them are real people.

Ughhhh..... You guys have noticed this thread is supposed to be a smart alec bogus thread aimed at Balrog's dissaproval of this forum's moderation, right?

Balrog, what is the point of these threads in legal? Nothing legal has occured. Maybe you should post in activism with a plan to contact senators and congressmen. All these sky is falling threads without a plan accomplish is hysteria and buying frenzies. Do you own a retail store that sells guns and magazines or something? So what are you trying to accomplish?

Here is an example of a thread which already covers your topic but actually has a plan to it: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7040708#post7040708

I don't think we should blame the president, he signs laws from congress but but doesn't introduce or pass them. just like congress using AZ as a scapegoat to take away our rights, it is ignorant people who raise AR-15 prices because they fear the left-wing for illogical reasons. i agree, blame congress, not Obama.

Also, I would like to address the thought on people's minds:

Left-wing doesn't mean Socialism, look here for left wing and here for socialism

You know, I personally think gun owners should think Obama is the greatest thing to ever happen to them. He's a democratic president who came aboard ready or at least intending to make changes and gun control was nowhere among them, and despite internet hyperbole will never be. Obama is a sign that the gun owners of America have won. That rhetoric has gotten so strong under him despite him doing nothing to stir it up speaks badly for us -- not for him.

The last thing we need to do is be SILENT about an individual that hasn't even proven he's and AMERICAN yet! Sound off and sound off frequently.

This is an RKBA site, and there are published reports from obama administration officials that a diologue on 'responsible gun ownership" is coming. NOW IS THE TIME FOR THESE THREADS.

As for being "anti-Obama" in nature, I would hope we would call out ANY public official with a history of or current desire to infringe upon our RKBA. If that happens to call out one party more than the other, then so be it.

If that calls your party affiliation into question, then deal with the facts and respond accordingly by holding your party accountable.

Yes, we have to vigilant holding both sides of the isle accountable. That said, we are kidding ourselves if we think for one second that one party is not more prone to infringe our rights than the other. If this thread gets locked for stating the truth, then so be it. Elected Democrats are far more inclined to limit our RKBA than Republicans. Deal with that fact & vote accordingly.
