Wish I could figure out how to post pictures I have on a disk to show them. Just can't figure it out.

I was just reading about lawman, John J. Bogard's 3.5" barreled Pocket Army .44-40 in a 2009 Guns of the Old West mag last night. How do these old classics compare in size to a J-frame, K-frame, etc?

I gather most 'MH' Revolvers were NIckled, with Blue seen occasionally.
I do not have one yet to compare to similar size Colts or S & Ws, but, I imagine the 44 or 44-40 Chamberings, were likely about the size of an S & W 'N-Frame'.

The Pocket Army is a rather big gun, at least the size of a Colt Sheriff's Model.

Thanks. I figured they were on the large size, just never saw one "in hand."
Lightning Man, there is no need to use a photo service. Your pictures are on the disc in files, most likely in jpg format.
Once the disc is inserted in your computer, you should know its device name (e:// or whatever). You can either copy the pictures to a directory (My Pictures is the common one) on your hard drive, or upload right from the disc.
To do so, go to reply, then click on GO ADVANCED. When the new screen comes up, type whatever you want and click on MANAGE ATTACHMENTS. Then use BROWSE to locate the picture file, either on your hard drive or on the disc, and it will upload to the site. Once your picture(s) - up to 4 - are uploaded, close the window.

Just FWIW, I have found that the folks who say they like those revolvers have never used one. IMHO, they are a royal pain in the butt, with the disadvantages of both Colt and S&W and none of the advantages. Maybe that is why they didn't sell well.

I cannot get a picture from my disc to transfer to an AOL file for sharing. I get to the point of downloading but it always comes up no pictures were downloaded. My files do not have a http// or whatever in front of them.

The only thing relevant that I have to add...
In El Paso on Yarbrough, there's a restaurant called Rancher's Grill. In a little wall mounted display case by the cashier is the old rusted remains of a Merwin Hulbert revolver. Inside the case is a little plaque that reads:
This gun is the only gun in the southwest that was never owned by Billy the Kid.

Here's mine, I think it's a 3rd model frontier. The grips are some sort of red composite material, the barrel has been shortened, and there is an old repair to the top strap. It has been renickled and gone over by "The Smith Shop" for proper functing. It's in 44-40 (or as it says .44 Cal Winchester 73).

I so want someone to make a repro of one of these in 45 colt or 44 special. I love the open top with the "skull crusher" pommel.

You might get your wish. You'll find a company now in existance that is taking pre-orders for the modern copies of those revolvers in many calibers including .44spl and .45C. www.merwinhulbertco.com . They are $1250.00 basic price and there are a lot of options listed. If they ever prove up and start delivering actual firearms I intend to buy a couple for CAS shooting. I have heard some disturbing things about them...like the deposit is "non-refundable" and that nobody seems to have seen one come out of the factory. They certainly look good on the sales pitch page.

If I understand correctly, the original MH Large Frame Revolvers, came chambered in -
.44 Merwin Hulbert Cartridge, about which I have not been able to find any specifications.

Oyeboten, As far as I know no parts available as the Company went out of business in 1892 or there abouts. As far as these russian M,H revolvers go, they are probably setting in boxes in some storage building. LM.

They have been taking money for quite a few years and still haven't produced a gun...it is generally accepted that the non-refundable deposit is lost money. If you read through the forum all you will find are excuses why it has not gone onto production yet. They didn't even have a prototype available at the Shot Show, just a lot of talk and pretty pictures.
It would be wonderful if they actually started producing guns but the owner has a horrible track record in the industry.

I went through their entire site, no where is there a phone number or physical address, I even did the entire ordering process short of giving them a CC number...still no contact info other that a e-mail.
At the Shot Show they had an unmanned booth with some one page flyers available which had 4 CAD drawings in it. There was phone number on it but it wasn't answered and when I tried it I got a "no voice mail box set up" announcement.
Last I heard they didn't even have a factory set up but were hoping to get grant money for start up. Their forum is full of promises of production starting soon...

He says they had three senior MH people there, lumped in apparently with all five of the "companies" the group is trying to float.
That may possibly be why I saw no MH reps anywhere near the little table where I picked up that flyer.
He says they conduct a bunch of business via email, it provides better communication.
Customers get his phone number & he talks to them.

I am surprised that there is a gun I have never heard of! Although, there are probably hundreds! I can say form the one pic I saw, they are beautiful guns!
Oyeboten, yes I do, with some very mild loads. I bought it from an elderly gentlemen who told me he had bought it in Mexico many years ago. He thought it was a Winchester revolver due to the caliber markings on it. Not collector grade but has lots of "character" When I bought it, the single action didn't work, I sent it to a smith (now retired) that specialized in "cowboy" pistols, he fixed it, straightened the cylinder pin, and re welded the ring the barrel catches on to drag the cylinder forward.
