I have often lusted after the finley engraved revolvers with custom grips, sheathed in carved floral design holster and belt rigs.

These have come to be known as B-B-Que guns or rigs, worn on special occasion to flaunt ones taste in "shooting irons" in front of his or her buddies at the local B-B-Q.

Exqusite scrimshaw ivory, stag or wood grips ,finely engraved blued , plated,or stainless steel, artfully carved holster and belt rigs, all masterpeices of the artisans hands.

These images have haunted the dreams of myself and no doubt others that read these forums. Envy one of the seven mortal sins of which I stand accused:evil:.

Although this may not be a true B-B-Que rig, but I would not be ashamed to wear this to ANY WIENIE ROAST in the country!

Shootin' iron, Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt 4 5/8"
Custom grips, Gripmaker Carthage MO
Ammo , 255 gr SWC Keith design handloads
Leather, El Paso Saddlery Tom Three Persons crossdraw and River Belt
Bulckle, Dupont Gunpowder
Knife, Boker of Argentina
Backround, Levis

It's hard to believe there isn't someone out there that does't have a picture of their Plain Jane gun rig to post!

These rigs hold that special aura, they are the working mans BBQ rigs.

Kinda like the girl in high school study hall. You know the one I'm talking about, she was the one with that special smile or walk, she wasn't the beauty queen or cheer leader type but she just ahd that special something.

Well thats the type of rig I'm looking for y'all to post, those working rigs, the ones you've taken the time to build. They may not be bbq's but they darn sure get the job done!

Great thread idea Dagger Dog!
I'd like a fancy BBQ rig one day as well but right now, like you, my stuff is definitely geared toward the Wienie Roast. I suppose that comes from owning all working guns and no "Sunday go to Meeting" guns.

This is a Black Hills Leather rig and S&W 586 L-Comp. It's pretty basic but looks good for court and days when I'll be out around the public instead of working down on the shoreline and in the mud. The gun is at the shop now having a bit of work done and being refinished so it will be more presentable. I like this rig for fancier wienie roasts where they're serving up gourmet dogs and Grey Poupon.

For Ballpark Frank type events this is a RIA GI .38 Super in an Andy Langlois buffalo hide holster and matching mag pouch, he also made the belt but didn't have enough buffalo left to match it up.

And finally, for more discreet carry when at a public hot dog fest, this is an AMT Backup DAO .38 Super in a custom holter and mag pouch by Ed Rodek. Simple and understated but still looks great.

I have two or three that might qualify but this 5" 45 Colt is my latest. A M29-2 conversion to 45 Colt by Jim Stroh with minimum spec chambers, narrowed trigger and hammer with Turnbull case colors, Jim's slick interchangeable front sight and all, I mean all, looseness removed. Leather is by El Paso Saddlery and the French walnut Roper grips are by Keith Brown.

riddle,

That looks like real stag, must have set you back a few pennies. That pair has just enough show to look great, but also has that dead serious look.

I did neglect to provide any info on the picture.

Shown here is a 7.5" Blackhawk in .45 Colt and a 4 5/8" .45 Colt/.45ACP Blackhawk convertible
.
Actually, both sets of grips shown are Sambar stag made by Eagle grips back in the mid 1980's. Back then I thought that $125.00 was highway robbery for a set of premium Sambar grips. I wish now I had invested my son's college fund in Sambar grips instead of stocks and bonds.

:banghead:

Both of these sets were hand picked by a particularly helpful gentleman at Eagle grips after I called and requested grips with about 40% bark that were still smooth enough to handle regular shooting duty.
The set you see here on the 7.5" Blackhawk now resides mostly on a fine example of the Ruger Single Six .22LR/.22 Mag convertible. The 7.5" Blackhawk in the picture is a pure hunting revolver these days that regularly digests .45 Colt "Blackhawk Only" loads to harvest deer and hogs. As such it now wears a Hogue one piece rubber grip.

Here is another glamor shot of the 7.5 and a collectible Gerber Bowie knife that has another excellent piece of Sambar as its grip;

Cocked,

If you are down there in the Nantahala forest area, you need that rig to keep the hogs out of your camp. I've flown over that area from 20,000 ft, and it is just about one of the largest wilderness areas east of the big muddy.

Your Stampede is a thumper no doubt, it looks great with that custom leather, not a bad back up blade either.
