Let's take some bets...

How many weeks before the .458 SOCOM kills a Simmons scope? (Assume 12 rounds a week)

I was at the range today, and the guy next to me was shooting a brand new AR in .458 SOCOM. Neat rifle, neat round, and a neat guy, too.

Mounted on said AR was a Simmons scope. I could see putting a cheapo scope on a cheapo .22 plinker, but a scope like that on something with the recoil of a .458? After talking to the guy, it seems like he comes to the range weekly about the same time I do. He shoots maybe a dozen rounds out of his .458, then switches to .22 or something else.

So lets see what everyone thinks - how many weeks before he mentions that his rifle knocked his scope apart?

I know if I was in his shoes I wouldn't be to quick to mention a mistake like that. That cartrige looks a little wierd. Seems like a huge slug.

I saw a guy at a range with a tasco 3-9x on a 7mm rem mag i believe. Nice guy though. Just doesn't know his basic requirements.

I wouldn't bet on it failing right away. I swiped the Leupold off my FAL one day to use on a bolt action and since I still wanted to try the FAL scoped I put a 2-7x BSA airgun scope I had on it. Over the next few months I proceeded to fire about 200 rounds through it. Then I got a Saiga .308 and I wanted a scope on that, so I swiped that same 2-7x BSA. I've now put about 1000 rounds through that S308 and that cheap little BSA scope is still holding up fine.

I've even bumpfired it a couple of times.

LOL, funny poll.

I'm betting that the scope holds up, but if its anything like my experience with simmons scopes, he's going to have a tough time shooting with any accuracy due to horrible parallex problems.

Chose 10+, but it depends a lot on the particular model. Simmons does have some decent scopes with visibility being acceptable.

I don't know how the recoil is with the .458, but the one that came on my 30-06 broke with less than 50 rounds. I went to adjust the magnification and the crosshairs twisted.
