I sure got a lot of years good use out of my Savage 110L in 30-06. I used that rifle in Alaska for over 30 years and it produced a lot of moose and caribou in my freezer. It would easily hold a 1" group at 100yds from a rest. I never though it's recoil was that bad, I used to plink with an '03 Springfield which has a steel buttplate. Back in the '60s you could buy military surplus 30-06 ammo cheap, I got several batches from Montgomery Wards for about $25 for 800rds. WWII surplus but they all worked just fine for hunting.
