Lets talk snubbies

I like the 'pocketability' of the 642. Sadly, the stock grips are just too short for me - and the slightly longer Hoque's really help, albeit at a concealment cost. But... you can't get a CC license there anyway, so why not get a steel revolver? A few +P rounds from a 637/642, like the Federal 158gr LHPSWC +P's I use, will get your attention... a bit more mass helps!

I wish the new 2" M10 I bought from CDNN was still available - at $280 new, it was a steal. The M10 old 'M&P' is hard to beat - and later ones, like mine, are +P rated. It comes with the Uncle Mike's backstrap enclosing rounded combat grips - great feel, although I like wood. I saw the M64 (SS version of the M10 'M&P' with similar fixed sights) and M67 (SS adjustable sights) in 3" and 4" new at a local dealer for < $400, too. Consider that 3" variant - and, they all come with the same grips as my M10 did. Additionally, the SS may be a closer 'match' to that chrome you wanted. You cannot beat S&W's new-gun warranty.

About snubbies... that 637/642 variant is a self defense gun - just not a lot of fun, nor was it designed, to plink with. The 2" M10, and my 3" 65, a well used 'police trade-in' purchase, are far better. I had a miserable hot & muggy central Alabama summer-like day at the range Monday - I couldn't hit squat. My best was 1 out of 6 on the 12" plate at 110yd with my 4" - 5.5" 'big bores' (.44 Spcl & .45 Colt)... then I tried the 2" M10 - and my 158gr LRN plinking load (3.5gr TiteGroup) - 2 out of the first 6 - then 4 out of 6! I put the handguns up - and got out a CZ-452 Trainer .22 and had cheap fun. A snubbie can astonish you... but a lite weight will wear you out... besides, a M10, 64, or 67 is a 'six' shooter!

Stainz

PS I have the 642's bigger brother, the Al/Ti 296 .44 Special 5-shooter, not my favorite plinker - and a tad big for CC. That 642 is ideal. Our current sheriff won his election by promising to lower the carry license from $20 to $7.50 - which he did... ah, Alabama!
